Jon Carry Redux

I'm not so sure about today's hot John Kerry story. Is Ben of Mesopotamia saying he took the Lonely Kerry photo, because I can't really tell. People certainly aren't identifying him as the photographer when they link him.
The scenario's plausible, but in light of the time stamp and the "This is a true story" intro, I'll sit this one out until there's more information.

UPDATE:
Here's a similar photo of him at the Basrah Air Station. Not any snubbing going on, well-deserved though it would be. Make of it what you will.

UPDATE II:
From Consonant Dude in comments:

Deserving or not, you don't snub VIPs that can have an impact on budgets or policies that are important to the DoD, not if you are military anyway.

I suspect that this snapshot (in time) of Kerry nearly alone at a table does not show the reality of the visit. That said, I doubt many went out of their way to see him and I'm quite certain that the Senator was allowed to visit where he wanted to visit.

Put it this way - I've been in for nearly 18 years now and I've never seen a CODEL turned down and every aspect, to include guests at meals is prearranged by the name and number. If for no other reason, do you think a commander wants to tell the SECDEF why the senator might have been unhappy about his visit?

Sounds about right to me.

The U.S. Embassy mess hall has the Union Jack (at least twice) on display?

Posted by: marybeth at December 27, 2006 05:01 PM

On second thought, I'm not sure that thing to the left of the window is a flag. Anyway, even if it's only there once, is it usual for an embassy to be showing the flag of another nation?

Powerline has a good writeup and there's lots of snarkiness abounding on the blogsphere.
Looks like JF'nK has gone into deep cya mode and ended up digging deeper.
I've gotta say it couldn't have happened to a more deserving person.

From LGF and supposedly the person who captured the moment:
"This is a true story.....Check out this photo from our mess hall at the US Embassy yesterday morning. Sen. Kerry found himself all alone while he was over here. He cancelled his press conference because no one came, he worked out alone in the gym w/o any soldiers even going up to say hi or ask for an autograph (I was one of those who was in the gym at the same time), and he found himself eating breakfast with only a couple of folks who are obviously not troops.

What is amazing is Bill O’Reilly came to visit with us and the troops at the CSH the same day and the line for autographs extended through the palace and people waited for two hours to shake his hand. You decide who is more respected and loved by us servicemen and women!"

That's the same forwarded mail everybody has, G.
In any case, he doesn't seem to be getting snubbed in Basrah.

But if the Army is still allowed to have a God, I hope they served this guy a breakfast of scrambled eggs out of a mermite can. Now that should bring back some of those "seared" memories from Vietnam. And then maybe that little reminder will bring back thoughts of what it was like to be fighting a war while the folks in the rear were undermining the reason they sent you to fight in the first place.

Sorry, that last paragraph got away from me - nightshift again - time to go make some powerpoint slides.

the man has no conscience...he is as stupid as he appears.

Trust your instincts...he is a true dumass.

The pic didn't smell right, probably because of my naturally suspicious peasant nature.

When we were loading up at Rhein-Main, we thought Quayle was stopping by. Half of us (that would include me) were rolling their eyes and making complainy noises. The sergeants descended like harpies, reiterating in their special way that our political opinions rated shit and to do what we get payed for.
Turns out it was Colin Powell. He did an informal inspection and I was thrilled to death.

Good things come to those that don't get stuck in a front-leaning rest.

If they'd had claws, they'd have slashed us. They gave us a quick and brutal attitude adjustment.

I think the Right is getting a bit too excited about this snubbing thing. In fact, on FOX NEWS' "FOX & Friends", Kilmeade asked if the snubbing was true and he read & showed viewer email & photos proving he was NOT snubbed by many soldiers.

Posted by: GMD at December 28, 2006 09:44 AM

Though he's a prick and would deserve an obvious snubbing, most soldiers have too much discipline to do that, or have sergeants ready to give them a headthump if they even think of it.

Posted by: Donnah at December 28, 2006 03:19 PM

Ahhhh well, there was that fleeting moment when it appeared he was getting what was coming to him.

Posted by: Gmac at December 28, 2006 04:13 PM

Nah. Too much punishment involved.

Posted by: Donnah at December 28, 2006 04:35 PM

The picture below shows Kerry wasn't shunned by the troops. He's eating with them at the same sort of table and in the same clothes. The picture in question being called Lonely Kerry is obviously taken after some of the troops ate and had to leave.

Agreed. He's still a prick though.

Posted by: Donnah at December 28, 2006 09:23 PM

Man, I just can't let sleeping dogs lie, especially curs like him.
Go to 'Some Thoughts on Moonbattery' at http://www.powerlineblog.com/ to see that indeed, the picture is real and he was by himself. Or at least everyone that was eating with him got happyfeet and hit the trail leaving him to snarf the last bit of whatever they served him.

Posted by: Gmac at December 29, 2006 05:03 PM

G, if someone has to explain a joke that much, it wasn't funny.
As far as anyone "analyzing" the photo to get the time stamp, it's right there under 'information' in my plain jane, Duane-centric photoeditor, Irfanview.

Not everybody who doesn't fall in line with Powerline, or Michelle, or any other big right-wing blogger is a moonbat. As my dad told me a hundred times, it's not one brain for every ten people. God gave me my very own.
The pic was dubious and I waited for evidence it was legit. I'm sure now that it is.

This was no "Halp Us Jon Carry," though clearly some folks wanted it to be. I don't blame them; everybody wants to be the one who finds the next "HUJC" pic.

Posted by: Donnah at December 29, 2006 05:27 PM

True enough Donnah.
I suppose I just despise him more than most politicians, which I generally despise because they are politicians.
