Turns out we were right to think the photo purported to show John Kerry being spurned by the troops in Iraq was dubious:
Snubbed? Alone? Hardly. Sen. Kerry isn’t eating alone. In fact that photo is at an off the record breakfast meeting Senator Kerry conducted early Sunday morning with the very real Marc Santora of the New York Times Baghdad bureau and his younger colleague from the newspaper. The man shown in the green shirt across from Sen. Kerry is Marc Santora.
As reader Consonant Dude said in comments, "I suspect that this snapshot (in time) of Kerry nearly alone at a table does not show the reality of the visit.".
That was indeed the case.
Kerry still remains, however, a prick.

Posted by floridacracker at January 5, 2007 04:37 PMMeh, agreed...
Dan Reihl say's it best though.
Posted by: Gmac at January 5, 2007 11:10 PMThat's mysterious, G. I don't think what Dan Reihl says is common knowledge.
Posted by: Donnah at January 6, 2007 12:21 AMIn fact the "defense" is a VALIDATION!!!
Kerry ate with reporters rather than his "band of brothers?"
How does that validate Kerry's polemonkeynishessness?
You know, that Kid Rock (who could proffit from being seen with soldiers) and Jesse James (who could have proffited as well) did not allow their direct interactions with troops to be released on their various television efforts? They treated it as a personal interaction.
Kerry got caught engaging in a NON-SERVICE (which is why he said he was going there) interaction with reporters?
How is that LESS of an insult to the troops?
So the defense is that kerry wasn't snubbed by the troops but rather HE snubbed the troops?
How many levels of rotten prick thinks that that is a rational argument?
Posted by: Wickedpinto at January 6, 2007 05:39 AMIf you chose not to post my previous.
Kerry CHOSE to not eat with troops, so the picture makes him better?
sorry, can anyone else find the idiocy of that argument? It MUST have been written by Kerry himself to be that retarded.
Posted by: Wickedpinto at January 6, 2007 05:40 AMSorry, Dan was inconsolable, beside himself with grief, at the true revalation of the 'lonely' breakfast meeting.
Greg Sargent at Talking Points Cafe states that sKerry was merely having an early morning breakfast with his two buddies from the NYT.
What they were discussing is not known at this time, probably because it wasn't classified top secret.
Hey, this blog stuff works.
Make an allegation based on available evidence. Retract it when new information shows otherwise.
What a novel idea. If everyone on the net did this, we could finally hold hands and sing of true brotherhood.
Posted by: CJ at January 6, 2007 10:11 AMHow about jump to conclusions based on wishful thinking then retract? At least HA did retract. I think a good portion of the pack will pretend they didn't do any howling.
Even smart people can act silly when they put their emotions in the driver's seat. Carefully placed bursts are the most effective; not full auto.
tempest in a canteen cup.
and boo-ya! to Donnah for succinctness.
