A Layla-shirted Duane hitting a very good note, with Jaimoe as his witness.
Wail on, Skydog!
Yet another picture I have never seen of Duane ...this maybe my alltime favorite ...thanks for sharing with us ...we're not worthy ...we're not worthy ....is this the Tiger Stripe or the Plain top Les Paul ...is this the famous one??? That they made the copies from it kinda looks like it and then it kinda doesnt ...
Posted by: Greg Henderson at January 10, 2007 01:44 AMi'm figuring it's "whipping post" or something else with octaves in it. he's got his hand in the old wes montgomery shape for sliding up and down the neck. probably fixing to go back to the string bending at the end of the phrase.
longest hair, wide tiger stripes, that's got to be the one he got from Billy G/chris cross.
Wail on!!!!!
Posted by: richard at January 10, 2007 05:46 AMyep that's the cherry burst, also known as Hot Lanta. A 59 lester..maple flame city.
It looks to me like Jai Johanny is doing more than witnessing...he is sending his best mojo on over to Skydog's fingers.
I wonder if Duane was a Gator or a Vol ?
Thank You Misruss Cracker.
Posted by: csason at January 10, 2007 06:13 AMA very sweet note. Hope he didn't trip on all those wires.
And speaking of what's on the floor, those are double wah-wah pedals, not Frankenstein shoes, right?
Posted by: Carl in Atlanta at January 10, 2007 06:29 AMAbsolutely awesome Donnah. Thank you as usual. Nothing like a Wednesday DA pic. And a really nice one at that! Now I can get some work done! Oh yea, I just found out that my brother in law got to see Duane perform on 3 different occasions. He says to me, "I guess I was pretty fortunate". I told him that I now offically hate him! Lucky Buzzard! My husband only got the chance once. Me, no such luck.
Wail On Skydog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: cindy at January 10, 2007 09:31 AMWow, awesome pic. Love the amps in the background.
Posted by: scotty at January 10, 2007 10:58 AMDonnah, you've outdone yourself with this one. Duane clearly has his mojo workin' when the shutter clicked for this shot.
Great to see another shot of the "Layla shirt", one of the rare instances where an early seventies off-the-rack bit of rock and roll fashion still looks great today.
Posted by: Paco Malo at January 10, 2007 11:33 AMT'weren't off the rack, I don't think. I believe I read that was made by Eric Clapton's seamstress.
And although it's often called 'the peacock shirt' the design is actually of a griffon.
Hate the double tap :-(
Posted by: scotty at January 10, 2007 12:45 PMIs it just me/us or is there some timeless beauty in those late 60's-early seventies events and actors ?
Thanks Donnah.
Donnah, thanks for the information on the origin of the "Layla shirt". I knew that Jimi Hendrix and Keith Richards had designers dressing them up like rock stars. I always figured that Duane wouldn't go for that -- the "Clapton's seamstress" explanation for this exceptional rock fashion statement makes perfect sense to me.
Posted by: Paco Malo at January 10, 2007 04:54 PMt'weren't ...isn't that twice'd you've used that
recently ??
Must be a fan of apostrophes.
forgot to say Thanks..
Thanks Donnah !
Posted by: csason at January 11, 2007 01:25 PMthat mess on the floor is the junction box for the microphone cables. duane's cord stretches out back by the timbales where in the darkness, a maxed out 50 watt amp sings the same song we hear every day.
