That headline gave me pause.
Weary from what exactly? Weary from living life exactly as we've always lived it?
We're not wearing from rationing, or growing and canning our own food. We're not wearing from travel restrictions or clothing shortages. We're not weary from working in defense plants, buying war bonds, or collecting scrap metal.
We're certainly not weary from most of our men 18-45 being in uniform.
This war hasn't required a thing from the general populace. We haven't done anything to be weary from.
No, we're not "war-weary Americans." So what would make a more truthful headline? How about this:
"Bored With War, Americans Weigh New Bush Plan."
Posted by floridacracker at January 11, 2007 01:38 AMI think that most of the 'power players' are frustrated protesters from the flower power generation, and they ARE PISSED !
We don't have a draft. I'll bet the only thing that keeps Nancy Pelosi awake at night is how she is gonna re-design the American flag...more pink, of course.. and instead of those awful stripes, maybe some polka-dots, red and blue ones, each representing a state !
The soldiers that are persecuting the Islamic people are cut from wood the liberals CAN'T begin to understand.
Some American's Love a winner... all this stuff you've heard about America not wanting to fight, wanting to stay out of the war, is a lot of horse dung. *some* Americans traditionally love to fight. *some* Americans, love the sting of battle. When you were kids,*some of* you all admired the champion marble shooter, the fastest runner, the big league ball players, the toughest boxers ...*some* Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. *some* Americans play to win all the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in Hell for a man who lost and laughed.
So I think the headline should read
Liberals and *Some* Americans Weigh New Bush Plan
Posted by: csason at January 11, 2007 05:30 AMHow about MSM tries to shift perceptions of things they don't like?
Posted by: Gmac at January 11, 2007 06:34 AMThe only thing I'm weary of is MSM bullshit but it is a way of life, so nothing has changed.
Posted by: tfhr at January 11, 2007 09:53 AMWeary of MSM Bias
Who wouldn't get tired of news that concentrates on failures and uses sources who may have allegiances to those we are fighting? Imagine if the media covered the Olympic games in the same way - focusing on who lost, who was injured, reporting wild speculations of fervent fans of opposing athletes as fact, only mentioning Americans who won medals so that they could describe how the loss of the same medal has ruined absolutely everything in life for another athlete. (It's not hard to imagine, the media already mocks any display of patriotism by American athletes.) How long before the crowds who cheer the torchbearers would turn into protest mobs complaining about the expense of the games?
Posted by: marybeth at January 11, 2007 12:03 PMThis is exactly why they still have synchronized swimming and not baseball in the Olympics.
Posted by: tfhr at January 11, 2007 12:54 PMBecause there's no crying in baseball?
Posted by: marybeth at January 11, 2007 11:41 PMExactly. Plus, they get to wear those snazzy nose clip things while in the pool and after the competition is over, they can take them home and sell them to throngs of enthusiastic fans.
Posted by: tfhr at January 12, 2007 07:31 AMI’m old enough to have listened to, and my parent’s were old enough to have lived through, the true sacrifices that our grandparents endured during WWII. Up until the day she died in 2003 my grandmother would use a paper towel over and over until it fell apart. She saved ALL jars. Even two spoonfuls of leftovers got put in the ice box and someone ate it at the next meal. We are indeed soft now.
A friend of mine has done some research on what would happen if a disaster of epic proportions, natural or man-made, struck a major US city. Nothing short of the collapse of civilization as we know it. I own some land in a remote section of the least populated (at least it used to be; not sure now) county in Florida. If it ever happens, that's where I'm headed.
Posted by: hamous at January 12, 2007 03:18 PMHamous, my Mom still washes out plastic ziplock bags..she is 85, and grew up without. She lives in a very prestigious area in our town, has no debt...and could hire servants if she pleased..
maybe a little mild collapse would do us some good.
