Duane and his goldtop have a nap.
Wail on, Skydog!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Wow Donnah, AWESOME pic!
This is a really funny one heh.
Nice shot of the Gold Top there too.
Now its time for me to get some shut eye...
Thanks again! =D
More authentic denim, eh?
At first glance I took that belt buckle to be a St Andrews Cross, but upon closer inspection see that it's not; more of a Southwestern (as opposed to Southeastern) motif going on there....
Posted by: Carl in Atlanta at March 7, 2007 05:19 AMGreat pic, Donnah.
napping my ass...people that take naps take the cigs out of their pocket, and put guitars up, first.
This here scene is an authentic Skydog dream.
groovy watchband..I had one like that, only it was a little wider..lol.
Thanks Cracker.
Posted by: csason at March 7, 2007 05:48 AMPeople pay hard earned MONEY to make their jeans look like that nowadays. WAIL ON !
Posted by: lyvwire at March 7, 2007 06:16 AMDonnah I love this pic! I now have the desire to do a big old load of laundry for him as well as feed his skinny butt! Those jeans have bike grease, dirt from the road and no telling what else on 'um! I will make my weekly "wail on" in lower case so's not to wake the great one!
Thank you Mam!!!
Posted by: cindy at March 7, 2007 07:26 AMI gotta agree with csason when he says that 'people who take "naps" put their Les Pauls up properly.'
Also, I like the jeans just the way they are -- they really capture Duane and his life.
Thanks, Donnah! You go, ma'am.
Posted by: Paco Malo at March 7, 2007 09:13 AMah...I see the tell-tale 'cracker leg' showing..
Proving forever that any skinny dipping DA did was under the cover of darkness..
And I thought *my* legs were white.
Posted by: csason at March 7, 2007 12:15 PMI was hoping that was pocket and not leg. I guess whoever said Duane was white like a reverse X-ray was right.
Posted by: Donnah at March 7, 2007 04:00 PMI'm not too sure this is Duane.where is his ring. I never have seen this belt buckle. And Duane always coiled the strings on the headstock of his guitars. But I could be all wrong. Thanks for the pics Donnah.
Posted by: alan at March 7, 2007 07:22 PMnah, it's him. I think I remember the story behind the pic..but I'd probably screw it up. Something about he passed out, and they laid the Goldtop down
and took the shot.
Like I said..I probably screw it up, but there is some story behind this pic.
Posted by: csason at March 7, 2007 09:56 PMHey wait a second... alan maybe right... look at the beard... its just lookin like an extended mustache to me... right? Its not as long as it is everywhere else besides the Muscle Shoals pictures.. Hmmm sneaky suspicions... Also I thought the Gold Top had open coil humbuckers, not plated.
Still a great picture that captures the great relationship of the artist with his medium.
Inseparable. I hope I get a sweet 'thang' that I cant let go of, like that. =)
I actually thought all Gold Tops were single coil. Looked it up and they were plated humbuckers, beginning in '57.
I tried to paste a link on here for the info, but it would have messed up the spacing of the page. Gibson.com has the info if you're interested. Great picture.
where's Richard ??
Posted by: csason at March 8, 2007 10:12 AMthanks for the photo. It may be a quick cat-nap before- or after! a show. We all believe Duane was left-handed and played his guitar as a righty, thus enabling certain nuances in his magical guitar playing. In this photo his watch is on the left wrist, signifying a right hander. What say you all?? Wail On Brother.
Posted by: dmag at March 8, 2007 06:14 PMit's the same jacket he wore last week...
Listen..this is the Wedenesday Duane Allman pic. Now, *who*..or maybe I should ask..*which* one of you is going to tell Donnah *this* is *not* Duane "Skydog" Allman ??
Donnah is the keeper of the pic, and that in itself
is admissible in court, so there.
Donnah,
Don't know if you've seen this or not. If you have, I apologize for it. Anyway, here is something for all DA fans to see, hear, and appreciate. I think it's pretty cool.

Have a good one.
Hal
Posted by: Hal at March 8, 2007 10:23 PMYea Hal, nice one. Stumbled upon that one while lookin for the old ABB 1969 and 1970 footage... they were unfortunately removed for some reason... and now I'm sad because I dont have that quick and easy access to watching Duanes magic. =(
One youtuber had the full Fillmore East 1970 set - each song, and also had the 1969 Mountain Jam Outake, it was awesome. Now they're all gone, 'removed due to terms of use violation'.
Think I still have the videos downloaded on my old computer though... so they arent lost. Maybe I oughta post them on youtube sometime...
Thanks for the pic again Donnah, Duane sure knew how to mellow out, and listenin to the sound of his Plain Top or Gold Top (same pickups, right Csason?) sure makes me feel mellow. My FAVORITE sound of guitar right there. Screamin '59 is sweet and totally rocks, but I just DIE for those sweet smooth toned sounds.
Posted by: Ben at March 9, 2007 02:21 AMHard day taking drugs and picking and grinning? Try "Sleep", the new wonder pick-me-up. "Sleep", for those times when the coke just makes you pissy. :)
(csason: had a busy week. so many women, so little time to get rejected)
Posted by: richard at March 9, 2007 09:15 PMhey Richard,
Is this GT the 54 conversion that is Dickey's now..? it looks like it. The other one that stayed in
Daytona (after the infamous pickup trade), I saw sold for 750k in Orlando a year or so ago.
That's the general question here I guess, do you have any words about this one ??
Posted by: csason at March 9, 2007 09:33 PMYea it looks like it could be 'Goldie'. I never knew he had another gold top aside from that one in Daytona that sold.
Posted by: Ben at March 10, 2007 01:38 AMI name checked Duane this week in a post on Son House. Wail on! :)
Posted by: richard at March 12, 2007 12:05 PMJust a note for you Duane Detail folks. I am left handed. Play guitar left handed. ie. lefty guitar which looks backwards to rightys.
And yes, EVEN THOUGH I AM A LEFTY, I WEAR MY WATCH ON MY LEFT HAND. BECAUSE WHEN I WAS A YOUNG TEENAGER MY SIS INFORMED ME THAT IT LOOKED "DUMB" TO HAVE A WATCH ON MY RIGHT HAND. SO, IN ORDER TO "NOT LOOK STUPID" I CONFORMED AND HAVE ALWAYS WORN MY WATCH ON MY LEFT HAND EVEN THOUGH I AM INDEED, A LEFTY!
Its a good thing we cant see Duane's underware or there would no doubt be a debate on its authenticity! (lol) :>
Posted by: Sheila Smith at March 12, 2007 07:32 PMCarl, the belt buckle Duane has on is a Indian style thunderbird with the legs of the bird coming out on the bottom. Just so you know. :>
This photo is slightly blurry so you cant see it well, but it is a thunderbird belt buckle.
The first time i saw this pic I thought it was well, kinda creepy. Duane looks kinda; well; dead. But, it is a great shot, and he definitely isnt dead! Its long been said that he often fell asleep with his arms wrapped around his guitar as he practiced so much. And here ladies and gentlemen is the proof!
Wail on skydog! Your legend and music lives on! So "Rock on and have yourself a goodtime!" Duane's music will live on forever!
