At first glance I took that belt buckle to be a St Andrews Cross, but upon closer inspection see that it's not; more of a Southwestern (as opposed to Southeastern) motif going on there....

Donnah I love this pic! I now have the desire to do a big old load of laundry for him as well as feed his skinny butt! Those jeans have bike grease, dirt from the road and no telling what else on 'um! I will make my weekly "wail on" in lower case so's not to wake the great one!

I actually thought all Gold Tops were single coil. Looked it up and they were plated humbuckers, beginning in '57.

We all believe Duane was left-handed and played his guitar as a righty, thus enabling certain nuances in his magical guitar playing. In this photo his watch is on the left wrist, signifying a right hander. What say you all?? Wail On Brother.

Yea Hal, nice one. Stumbled upon that one while lookin for the old ABB 1969 and 1970 footage... they were unfortunately removed for some reason... and now I'm sad because I dont have that quick and easy access to watching Duanes magic. =(

One youtuber had the full Fillmore East 1970 set - each song, and also had the 1969 Mountain Jam Outake, it was awesome. Now they're all gone, 'removed due to terms of use violation'.

Think I still have the videos downloaded on my old computer though... so they arent lost. Maybe I oughta post them on youtube sometime...

Thanks for the pic again Donnah, Duane sure knew how to mellow out, and listenin to the sound of his Plain Top or Gold Top (same pickups, right Csason?) sure makes me feel mellow. My FAVORITE sound of guitar right there. Screamin '59 is sweet and totally rocks, but I just DIE for those sweet smooth toned sounds.

Just a note for you Duane Detail folks. I am left handed. Play guitar left handed. ie. lefty guitar which looks backwards to rightys.
And yes, EVEN THOUGH I AM A LEFTY, I WEAR MY WATCH ON MY LEFT HAND. BECAUSE WHEN I WAS A YOUNG TEENAGER MY SIS INFORMED ME THAT IT LOOKED "DUMB" TO HAVE A WATCH ON MY RIGHT HAND. SO, IN ORDER TO "NOT LOOK STUPID" I CONFORMED AND HAVE ALWAYS WORN MY WATCH ON MY LEFT HAND EVEN THOUGH I AM INDEED, A LEFTY!

Carl, the belt buckle Duane has on is a Indian style thunderbird with the legs of the bird coming out on the bottom. Just so you know. :>

The first time i saw this pic I thought it was well, kinda creepy. Duane looks kinda; well; dead. But, it is a great shot, and he definitely isnt dead! Its long been said that he often fell asleep with his arms wrapped around his guitar as he practiced so much. And here ladies and gentlemen is the proof!
