Wednesday's Duane Allman Pic

duanejax450.jpg
Stripes were in that season in Jacksonville and Duane was determined to wear a little of all of them.

yeah one Photochopped striped hat, and he probab;y wouldn't have the rep he does now...lol.

this looks like Dickey's Goldtop conversion. Thank You, Mrs. Cracker.

Probably Betts guitar (missing washer around the pick up selector, no string wrap around the stop tail piece, dings and scratches mismatch). Must have been a persuasive man: “I think I just might use your Lester today Dickey - agree?”

Is that a striped ring on his finger ?

Posted by: csason at March 28, 2007 05:32 AM

Looks - in close up - like two ordinary rings (wedding rings?) close together .

Looks like he was thinking of Carlos Santana.

That photo's from all the way back in JAX?

It wouldn't be until half a decade later on "Lotus" that Carlito earned the right to stand behind Duane. The Carlos Santana you're thinking of didn't exist when this picture was taken. Carlos was at the beginning of the road that goes on forever.

Looking back down that road, those two could indeed play for the gods -- Duane in the blues lane, Carlos the ever-evolving shaman.

Donnah has a color pic of Dickey and Duane side by side right around this same time period..not long after the 335 disappeared. I love the pic because you can still see the trapeze shadow in the finish. In this one though it's black and white so it's harder to see.

definitely post lace period, for sure..Dickey must have been going through the morphing of his life..lol. If you've ever been to Samoset or Oneco Florida, you would know why I'd bet he was having some heavy dreams...lol.

Yes indeed... the strip-e-est Duane has ever been... Only way he could have been more striped is if he had a hat, yes (=P) and if his strap was striped. Then just imagine a Zach Wylde guitar there... HAH I'd go dizzy!

Thanks Donnah for the interesting pic! =)
I hope you're feeling fine again!

A little late checking in. Happy little Camper now....got my Duane fix for the day and stripes!! Nice touch for spring don't you think? That talented little booger sure needed a stylist, opps maybe not...now that I think about it. Don't 'make no matter' what he was wearing..... nobody can Wail like the Dog!!!!! Thank you Donnah. And Happy 65th Birthday (yesterday) to Mr. Joseph 'Reddog' Campbell!!

Csason, it's true Carlos wasn't a shaman yet, but he sure was frowning at Woodstock.

That is one Les Paul I have never seen before in any picture ...it almost looks like the one in the picture of him sitting down at Muscle Shoals with ...but ...anyway I dont see the big deal about the stripes ..as stripes were all the thing back in those days ....everyone wanted to look hip ...and he was definitely a hip cat ....
