Isn't this truck beautiful? It's from a new automaker called the Southern Motor Company:

"A new stylish, modern classic street rod will soon be turning heads on the highway. On Tuesday officials from the start-up automaker, The Southern Motor Company, met with a handful of Southwest Florida investors to discuss the company’s plans for the retro-looking Southern 358.
The vehicle, modeled after a late 1940s and early 1950s Chevrolet pickup, will be manufactured in South Carolina, fully hand-crafted and assembled from stainless steel. Under the hood, the Southern 358 will have a 330-horsepower Mustang V-8 engine.
Arlene Brunner, president of Automotive Insight Inc., a Bonita Springs-based automotive marketing and research company, said among test markets in Los Angeles, Atlanta and Knoxville, the vehicle rated higher among 500 potential buyers than any other make or model."

Right now one will run you $58,000, but that does include having them paint your truck any color you desire. I'll take mine in mauve, please.

Posted by: richard at April 2, 2007 07:08 PMit better have heated memory seats for that price..
Although, stainless does make the difference. It is a perpetual truck..no doubt. Nice looking ride. I think I'll wait till the 4WD version comes out.
Posted by: csason at April 2, 2007 10:46 PMIf they're going to sell it up here in Maryland, they'll have to make it with an automatic transmission because Bubba can't shift gears and talk on the cell phone at the same time here.
I can't figure out what they're doing with their hands that they won't buy a standard. ( I know its not signaling a lane change ) Just walk into any kind of dealership around here and ask for a standard transmission and they'll look at you like you asked for a truck that runs on coal.
And they'd better consider putting a tofu holder in it too because trucks around here aren't often used for anything you couldn't do with a car.

Posted by: -S- at April 2, 2007 11:54 PMNow THATS the way new 'retro' vehicles should be made. Stainless steel and looks like the classic, beautiful cars back in their prime.
Its a huge price tag, but yes for a car that will never get rust holes, its definitely worth that kind of money... This would last you a lifetime at the cost of $58 Grand, and think about cars you have now... maybe last you 5-10 years each maybe a bit longer for newer ones.. so like 15 years for a $25 Grand car. 'lifetime' is like 60 years, so thats 4x the car in 1. $58 Grand isnt so bad a price for that, and its BEAUTIFUL. Not ugly like a lot of new trucks and cars.
I give it two thumbs up and hope they work from there up through late 60s muscle. B)
Posted by: Ben at April 3, 2007 12:55 AMHmm ... looks nice. But wait, what's this? Tilt steering? Cup holders?!
It's a Chrysler PT Cruiser, for people who hit it big on their Scratch n' Win tickets, while shopping for baby food and smokes at the 7-11.
It's a beautiful truck but if I could afford a no-room-for-kids vehicle, I would probably want the description to include "cute", "little", and "Cabriolet".
