The Props Of Politics

Still filled with sorrow over her memories of church burnings in Arkansas, a young politician discovers that she must steel her tender soul if she wants to pander like the big boys:

A candidate for Southern Oregon University student body president has admitted she was lying when she claimed she had a cousin who was killed in the Virginia Tech shootings.

Brandi Freeman spoke at a candlelight vigil held by students at the university campus in Ashland Thursday night.

With tears streaming down her face, she had claimed she had lost her cousin in the shootings that left 33 dead at Virginia Tech.

By Friday, Freeman admitted to making up the story to appeal to voters for the student body election next week.

Her excuse for the performance? Bipolar disorder. In first grade I once went to school with my uninjured arm in a sling. My excuse? Attention-seeking disorder. Unable to maintain my nerve however, I wimped out after only a few minutes - thus ending my political career before it even began. Later on as I watched a neck-brace-clad Ted Kennedy make his first public appearance post-Chappaquiddick, I lifted my milk glass in salute to his masterful demonstration of the high-stakes employment of an unnecessary orthopedic device.

if Brandi was really bipolar she would have been trying for the treasurer spot.. but President would be ok, no.. treasurer. No, President. No, treasurer..

Milk ?? I took you for a 'peanuts in coke' kinda gal, Donnah.

You weren't the only one that noticed the neck brace, Donnah. That was quite a fake moment for Ol Theodore... it was almost as funny as when he hit the deck during the 12 gun at his brother's funeral.

Ah, a young Hillary! in the making.

Yep, she'll go far if she finds the right movement to ride. Especially if she creates one like Al Sharpton did.

That article left part out. "[T]he person she said was her cousin, Kayla Grow, was not among the 33 killed there, nor was anyone by that name injured in the school shooting.

...Before admitting to making up the story, Freeman said her cousin was living in Virginia under an assumed name because she was a member of the federal witness protection program. She later admitted this was not true."

I'm impressed Donnah, news analysis began much earlier in your life than I thought.
Not so for me.
When I was in first grade JFK was assasinated. I can remember when I heard the news....I was standing in the doorway of Mom's classroom with two pencils hanging out of my nose.

Thanks, MaryBeth. Looks like the girl was tougher than I thought, coming up with a second lie to cover the first (all because she's bipolar, of course).

I think a lot of people got a kick out of Ted's performance. Why, just the other month, Mr. Cracker wrapped a piece of cardboard around his neck and asked me to guess who he was.
