Another in the series of Duane fishing. The real series, not that other one.
What kind of tree is Duane? A tall, skinny cypress with Spanish moss standing in the cool, swampy water.
Wail on, Skydog!
A rare moment of peace and fishing for Skydog! He was a man on the move and this is one of the few pics you will ever see of Duane with something other than a guitar in his hands. lol!
Here is another installment of the offical Duane Allman Notebook; started by our friend Cindy.
Quote by John Hammond from Guitar Player Magazine
I was going to record with the band [in Muscle Shoals]. When I arrived, they thought I was going to be black, and I thought they were going to be black! So they got pretty cold to me, and I didn't know what to make of this. After two days we'd cut about four tunes or something, and it was not going well.
Then on the scene arrives this guy with long red hair down his back, eyebrows that crossed, and a moustache that went all the way into his sideburns...He pulled up in this abandoned milk truck, and everybody said, "Hey, Duane, how you doin', man?" He said, "Where's this John Hammond guy? I want to meet this guy - I really dig him." They said, "You DO?" And they all looked at me with new respect. [Duane said], "I sure dig your stuff, boy, and I sure would love to play on your record, if it's okay." I said, "Sure, I guess so." I had never heard him play before, but these guys worshipped him. As soon as Duane gave me the okay, the session went fantastic! The album was "Southern Fried." When he did "Shake for Me," I was floored. There was a lot more that was edited out of that in order to fit the album; I mean he played on and on and on! He was just incredible.
"Rock on and have you a good time!"
LOL @ Richard...Zebco heaven...
looks like it was a dry season that year too, Donnah..(the lakes were down)
I beg to differ about this being a quiet moment for Duane. He may have *had* some quiet moments when he was on his respite- but this appears to be one of those fishing trips of the type I hate.
You know..the ones where the photographer follows you around the lake scaring the fish.
nice pics Donnah.. thanks.
I think Duane was like a Magnolia tree.
Gregg is more of the knee-deep type.
Posted by: csason at May 23, 2007 05:45 AMThose cypress-swamp photos really convey a sense of the ABB's mystique as they 'took off' during 1970-71. Intense, soulful, bluesy, authentically southern, earthy-psychedelic, mysterious, whatever. When I see the swamp shots I always feel the heat and hear the cicadas "hum so loud you would think you were losing your mind"...
Posted by: Carl in Atlanta at May 23, 2007 06:22 AMHappy, happy Wednesday Duane pic dance! Thank you very kindly Ms. Donnah. I can now make the rest of a very stressful week with some DA Zen. Posted by: cindy at May 23, 2007 07:33 AMAs the old Country and Western Local Hero Guitar Player Ernie Lee used to say on his local morning TV show in Tampa: "If you're too busy to go fishin', then you're just too busy."

Posted by: Sheila at May 24, 2007 01:00 AMSheila,
Earnie Lee, in the 1950's and 1960's, was a regional country and western guitar player and all-around West Coast of Florida entertainer. He retired to the morning TV show I watched as a kid in Tampa.
