Ah, the Fillmore wall. Never made it to that one.
The greatest revelation [for me] in that book on DA's life was the story of Bill Graham having the ABB play all night as THE last band to play the Fillmore East.

The Allman Brothers Band closing the Fillmore East forever. The late Bill Graham sure knew how to create rock history.

what is the history of this picture..??

Duane looks colorized, and this has to be the same shot as the album, without the rest of the guys..

Any explanation??

Thanks Donnah..

Happy (post) Memorial Day week 07 to all..

Some of y'all might need to ponder the piccy a little more. I reckon I'll change the caption.

I got it Donnah, still with us indeed! Laughing Duane (stash in hand)! Thank you O Guardian of the DA gate! Don't you dare change the caption hehehe.

Wail on into another Wednesday, Skydog!

ahh the magic of the photo program that removes people with a click. And for the record this isnt the Fillmore Wall. Actually was the side of the building at Capricorn Studios. This picture somehow doesnt look right. Duane was a team player and to me it looks odd to see him there by himself. But, in a way I also see why Donnah posted this. Duane still with us! Hovering ever so near yet so very far away! Thanks as always Donnah for the thought provoking picture.

Now for the Duane Notebook addition. This is a small quote remienced from Mama H. Duane and Greggs mom.

...He had his guitar, and he said to me, 'Mother, I would go hungry to play this guitar.' Well, then I knew he was dedicated. I knew that he had picked his way.
"He says, 'I don't want fame and fortune. I just want enough money to eat regular and to pay my bills, that's all I want out of life; and to play my guitar.' He did not want the fame and fortune. He never looked for it, and that's why he attained it....

Paco, Im behind in my email. Have had lots of company and have been under the weather my friend. When I am feeling bad, I am not very communicative. Sorry, I will be contacting soon.
Complications from my spinal injury takes all the energy I can muster, but no worries will be emailing ya soon!

I must it admit, the "Duane is still with us" stamp on the upper left equipment case gave away the photoshopping, but I wadn't a gonna say nuthin', 'cepting now I say don't change that there caption.

And Sheila's quote from Duane sounds a great deal like the way Woody Guthrie used to talk about his musical vision for his life.

Yea I've seen this shot before, knew immediately it was 'photo-shopped' as Paco says, or they used a hefty amount of 'band-be-gone' as Donnah would say. =P
And they used to colorize black and white shots and even films, frame by frame, so theres no doubt they did that here a little.
Anyways, the pattern of the cases was easy to connect between where band members were and things, so it turned out alright. Not perfect but a pretty good job of singling Duane out.
The original version of this picture (Fillmore cover) is one of my favorites. I'd just like to hear whatever comment or joke that was told that got them all laughing pretty good. =)

Thanks again, Donnah, for another good one!
And hope you feel better, Sheila!

Ben I think they're laughing because the road crew is on the other side of the album, and it was confusing for some to figure out which bunch was the band... in other words, it was a joke and supposed to be funny.

Posted by: csason at May 31, 2007 05:19 AM

The reason they are all laughing is because the photographer couldn't get a good picture (all of them frowning like badasses) and one of DA & the bands suppliers happened to walk by so Duane gets up, goes and gets some "stuff", comes back and sits down and they all crack up. No jokes Ben, just good "stuff". Thus my comment about stash in hand. I was serious, he has his stash in his hand! If you look at both shots for this photo you can see the difference. My contribution to the nootbook.Good day all!

Wail on, Skydog!

That very well might be it, though I see no difference from one picture to the other.
(I have the largest version of the cover picture that I've ever found for my desktop =P )
But they look like they're all havin a good time, and yea, generally it looks like they're all cracking up, and Duanes just smiling pretty for the camera. HAH! Someone may have slipped a side comment and got em laughin or something, but that is what I'll believe from now on about that one, 'Duanes stash in hand'. Thanks Cindy!

...however I just looked at the other picture and they're all in the same position, even Duane, they just have that 'badass look' like you said.

Anyways... it still is, and will always be, one of my all-time favorite band photos (The cover shot)
