Wednesday's Duane Allman Pic

ABB 10-10-71.jpg
This poster for one of Duane's last shows has the strangest drawing of Duane I've seen thus far.
What is that they have him wearing? A barber's bib? Oh, no! Not the 'chops!
Wail on, Skydog!

On the two CD Special Edition of "Live at the Fillmore East", the discs contain the full concert -- 3 hours plus -- including an encore with Evin Bishop on the song "Drunken Boy Blues". It shakes the already loosened plaster.

Because "Live at the Fillmore East" was recorded over three nights, one Dicky / Duane lead trade off on the Special Edition is two pieces of tape spliced together -- original breakout double LP vinyl album producer Tom Dowd liked the Dicky solo from one night and the Duane solo from another.

A couple years ago(or maybe last year) I met Elvin's slide player, Johnny V, over at the beach. He and his wife were staying right next door, and he had a gig across the street.
It wasn't until the last day (and we were done with the 'leave me alone' time) that we got a chance to jam and talk trash. The lady we rented from was really trying to play matchmaker...it was sickening.

Anyway, Johnny had played with Duane on several occasions, to my dismay I didn't find this out till the last day..I STILL wouldn't have wanted visitors, but it was interesting hearing him talk about those days.

very cool pic, Donnah.. thanks.

That drawing was from a photograph of Duane getting some dental work done. The actual photo was on the back cover of the Rolling Stone magazine with the Jim Morrison obituary on the cover from sometime in the Summer of 1971.

I saw the Allmans at the Fillmore East on March 12, 1971 (early show) when they opened for the mighty Johnny Winter who is now a good friend of mine. What an amazing show! I wish I could build a tme machine and see that show again evgery night I'm 51 now and I still listen to Johnny and Duane regularly. It keeps me strong, honest and happy. I wish to God ol' Skydog didn't get on that bike, but if you live fast sometimes you don't last too long and that's the way it goes. Duane's spirit and music will always be with me until I get to the other side and see him again. God bless brother Duane Allamn, brother Berry Oakley and all the other kool kats who went home way too early. Thanks so much, Donnah, for posting these great pictures for old suburban hippies like me who remember the good stuff!
