How To Catch A Greased Pig

Just think, if this hospital security guard had only had a crossbow, he could have pinned both the absconding infant and its father to the elevator wall, thus stopping the baby's flight and preventing it from falling all at once:

In a confrontation captured on videotape, a hospital security guard fired a stun gun to stop a defiant father from taking home his newborn, sending both man and child crashing to the floor.

Now the man says the baby girl suffers from head trauma because she was dropped.

"I've got to wonder what kind of moron would Tase an adult holding a baby," said George Kirkham, a former police officer and criminologist at Florida State University. "It doesn't take rocket science to realize the baby is going to fall."

I'm trying to figure out why they're now equipping glorified bouncers with tasers. For that kind of job you're supposed to hire big, beefy, brainless guys who can intimidate with their bulk. They should be passing stun guns out to uniformed two-year olds if they're looking for judgment and discretion in the weapon's use.

The last time I knew for certain, there were only three hospitals that actually had armed (off duty cops) security in FL...Miami, one other (sry) and Winter Haven. The reasoning in Winter Haven is because of a
rapist that got several victims a few years ago.

I have had to actually 'tackle' only one guy when I worked as a nurse..and now it would probably be a lawsuit, except the guy was really nuts and needed to be tackled.

In this situation, it is absolutley insane for the
guard to have done this. And regardless of how much backpeddling the DCF does about it, it doesn't exceuse the idiot for tasing them. It
would have been a mess if he hit the kid.

Yeah, I know I've never seen any armed ones. Tasers are marketed as being one step down from using deadly force. I can't see its use in a hospital. This new toy seems to be spreading. Would that dolt have tackled someone holding a newborn? How stupid do you have to be to tase someone holding one? What's even more ridiculous is that elevator wasn't even going anywhere - the baby's bracelets shut off its circuit.
Remember that Jacksonville baby that got stolen from the hospital about ten years ago? Hospitals have taken good preventative measures in that area since then.
