Duane and... a Brylcreemed Dickey(?) just can't hide from the bass.
Wail on, Skydog!

Wail on, Skydog!
Posted by: cindy at October 24, 2007 01:14 PMOh yea and one more thing, where are our "poets" this week? Ya'll are getting us spoiled.;)
Posted by: cindy at October 24, 2007 01:17 PMWell, in 5 days the 36th Anniversary of Duane Allman's passing will be here. God Bless him, I hope he is still wailing in heaven with God watchin and smiling!
I hope the Allman Brothers Site doesnt mind, I borrowed this paragraph from there. It is originally from Rolling Stone.
Lets take a minute of silence on the 29th of October to remember Duane and Berry for their contribution to music and humanity. And I pray their memory is never forgotten. Duane taught us a lot more than music appreciation. He taught us to be caring, loving individuals who chase their dreams until they catch em.
Band Leader Duane Allman Dies in Bike Crash
By: Jon Landau
For Rolling Stone
"Ol' Duane was married to his music, the truth be known," a close friend reflected after the funeral rites. "I guess him dyin' so young, though, was almost inevitable. He had a wild and reckless streak in him, and apart from pickin' his git-tar, he'd get...bored. I guess you could call it. On that account, he ran through a lotta chicks and a lotta mean dope in his green time, and he purely loved to smoke up the highways on bikes that was too fast for him. You don't live long if you live...impulsive like that. Duane was basically just a good ol' country boy, but he could jump salty, too, now and again. Hell, I'll miss him, myself. I'm just sorry he had to up and leave America so early. He had a fat lot left in him to do."
I wish I could remember my first exposure to Duane but I would have to say he crept into my life and had me hooked before I knew what hit me. Now I don't know what it would be without Duane or the pre 72 ABB. I tried to fill the gap with Marshall Tucker, Wet Willie, Grinderswitch, Charley Daniels, ZZ Top, Mama's Pride, Clapton: you name it, I tried to catch musical lightning in a bottle but the spark was gone.
Now here we are on the near anniversary of Duane's passing and I feel the loss. If anyone happens through Macon in the next few days, stop and visit our friends at Rose Hill and say a prayer for me along with your own.
I lost a brother-in-law to a motorcycle accident this past May. In his way, he was a lot like Duane. If Warren walked into a room of strangers, he walked out with a room of friends. Friends he knew by name. A free spirit who also had wrestled with his demons and loved his motorcycle only to be lost because of the actions of another.
Wail on, Duane , I still mourn the loss and smile with your joy of life.
Posted by: wilmarwil at October 24, 2007 05:52 PMFor Cindy, Donnah, and all the Wednesday pic family:
And the lighting and thunder from Duane's slide guitar came forth ... and broke Dickie's hair.
I'm down for a moment of silence on October 29th -- reminds me of the solemn gathering I attended on a Sunday many years ago -- for the loss of John Lennon.
John and Duane -- Rest in Peace. We shall do our best to keep your memory alive and rockin'.
Posted by: Paco Malo at October 24, 2007 06:23 PMHeres a moment of silence for Warren too of Wilmarwil fame.
Dont forget Berry too. They didnt pass on the same day or same year; but Im sure Berry and Duane would appreciate a silence for both fallen brothers on the same day. It was a domino effect.
And as for me, I never found another slide guitarist to fill Duane's shoes either. I guess I never will. No one has ever came close. Ever!
Wail on Skydog!
I feel kinda of bad posting this after such solemn and sincere posts...but I have to thank Paco for the "beautiful sentiment". I am ROTFLMAO....and I needed that more than any of you could know! Until next week......
Wail on, Skydog!
Posted by: cindy at October 25, 2007 11:25 AMNice pic! Again, one that I've never seen before or even one like before! I love how theres just about no end to the vault! hah
But yea Im lookin at Duanes guitar... it isnt a gold top so it has to be after the December '70 Fillmore Concert. That was when he swapped for the Cherryburst 58 body. (not that its that guitar, but its not the goldtop. And Dickey didnt have a gold top early, he had an SG)
I stop and think and thank God for Duane almost every day, as well as constantly listening to his unsurpassed excellence on guitar. I listen to the Layla album just about every day, and a mix of live albums and studio albums afterwards, all while Im working. Duane gets me through each day. =) And Donnah helps us get through Wednesdays!!
Thanks!

Heh. I'm the one that typed that article in over there.
Posted by: Donnah at October 26, 2007 06:13 PMBen, Dickey has had a GT forever..from my understanding, and that is a burst Duane has (you see the dark around the neckjoint, and faintly
around the body, the light relfection makes it look bright?) Dickey also played a 335 early on.
This shot may have been when Duane was trying out
the Tobacco burst (the first one) and that might
even be Duane's GT.
Either way, a bunch of cool fiddles.
Posted by: csason at October 26, 2007 06:15 PMRemembering Duane this early am. Listen man, I can hear his Harley in the distance! Hes in a hurry as usual, and hes got a gig tonight. He is with Berry and they can't wait to play the blues! "Play all night!"

Donna, just goes to show you that the world is one big circle going round and round! :>
