Like all fashionable young men of his era, Duane had an appreciation for Rit dye.
Screengrab from Fillmore East video.
Wail on, Skydog!
The smell of the hemp..
the haze of the liquor..
the throbbing of the speakers..
the gentle lull of one more Stormy Monday..this
time from the tie-dyed, burst wielding, giant from
Florida..
even a screenie has it's merits.

I can't think of a better way to decribed my early seventies concert-going days, so I'll just quote Comment One, above.
"Ritz" is a cracker (too)... The dye is "Rit". http://www.belly-timber.com/photos/rit_dye.jpg
Have a great Wednesday!
Ahhhh....poetry in motion.....and words from our resident poet(s). Thank you Donnah for finding these special tidbits.....but mostly thank you Howard Duane Allman!!!!
Wail on, Skydog!!!!
Posted by: cindy at November 14, 2007 11:35 AMBlues in the morning;
blues at night..
fingers across the fretboard
took him to some ethereal place.
Red hair tangled up,
eyes closed and we were transported too.
Traveling together in time and space.
He left us long ago.
But its as if it were yesterday;
when we close our eyes
and hear him play.
Wail on Skydog, Wail on!
Posted by: remembering Duane at November 14, 2007 11:59 AMI love all the beautiful writing we get on Wednesdays.
Posted by: Donnah at November 14, 2007 12:26 PMhot damn, no wonder i named my daughter Howard Duane! :)
Wail on!
Posted by: richard at November 14, 2007 03:31 PMThanks Cindy and Donnah.
Great job "remembering Duane".
Posted by: Paco Malo at November 14, 2007 04:23 PMThank you all for the comments! Your poems were great! Paco you may know me! (no hint, yet)
Posted by: remembering Duane at November 14, 2007 04:27 PMCasson, you sure can play the blues man! :>
Posted by: remembering Duane at November 14, 2007 04:31 PMThanks .. I have mellowed much in my antiquity.
Donnah, I got a subscription update yesterday, and noticed we were mutual admirers of a bald slide player on Youtube. He actually plays Statesboro blues in the same tuning I did for many years, then
some wise idiot informed me that Duane played it in open E. I have since gone back to the way I think Skydog played it, it is easier..and it is reasonably
doable. In other words..Derek may be chasing the wrong rainbow since he stays in E.
I almost forgot..
Thank you very much for the nice Duane Alman picture Mrs. Cracker...

Posted by: csason at November 14, 2007 06:17 PMhmm, Csason what tuning do you play Statesboro Blues in? Just curious.
Posted by: remembering Duane at November 14, 2007 09:51 PMDear "remembering Duane",
No hint, unless you're are mike.
Me llamo Jim; solve this little mystery, dude.
Posted by: Paco Malo at November 14, 2007 09:59 PMI have been trying to play it in open E, but I learned it in standard. Someone convinced me DA played it in open E, but I think they're full of it.
I almost forgot something really cool.
The other day I got a PM on another forum from a guy who swears his little brother (who dated Big Linda after Berry Oakley died) has Berry's bass. He says the bass was torn down and in a box, and was overlooked. He says he is giving it to Berry's son ?
(born out of wedlock ??) It all sounded very intriguing to me..I need to learn how to spell intriguing, I think.
From the details of the pm it seemed real..who knows.
RememberingDuane, I still think DA played it in standard.
Posted by: csason at November 15, 2007 06:58 AMCSason,
That's a way cool story about discovery, we hope, of Berry's bass. I pray it doesn't end up in a Hard Rock Cafe in Saudi Arabia.
Posted by: Paco Malo at November 15, 2007 07:15 AMdon't make me come down there and whup your fingers for you. statesboro is in open e, as is done somebody wrong and you should know it. :)
Posted by: richard at November 15, 2007 04:48 PMarrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhh!!!
picture Charlie Brown on his back....
Posted by: csason at November 15, 2007 05:57 PMnot jim, dont know jim. Thanks for the update on the tuning. also Warren Haynes plays in standard on everything...he sounds pretty authentic to me, but thats just my opinion. I think Derek rocks but cant be compared to Duane. like Dickie said in a interview, different eras and Derek has been alive longer than Duane. Also Derek started playing earlier and has Eastern influences. I think Derek rocks, but you cant beat Duane for pure emotion...the old Dickie too had that!
Posted by: remember Duane at November 15, 2007 07:36 PMRegarding Derek and Duane -- let's just dig it,see:

Paco, that was exactly my point! :>
