Last in the series of Duane at Washington and Lee.
Wail on, Skydog!
always makes my day.
Wail on, Y'all!
(is it just me or is duane sporting the "cousin it" look on this one?)
Posted by: richard at February 20, 2008 09:47 PMSeems like when he strapped that Burst on, the two of them saw the light anyway..hair or no hair.
If you look up 'slide guitarist' in the dictionary, that is the picture they have.. or should have anyway.
Thanks Missruss Donnah, for the Wednesday pic, we sure appreciate it.
Posted by: csason at February 20, 2008 10:43 PMI can't do better than csason did, so I'll just quote him: "Seems like when he strapped that Burst on, the two of them saw the light anyway..hair or no hair."
Posted by: Paco Malo at February 21, 2008 08:54 AMAw nice! Yea, this is the same as the one with the timer clock. Then he might have the Cherryburst out for play then.. cuz this ain't Hot 'Lanta.
I like the good shot of the headstock, too. Dont really get good look at them in most pictures.
But most of all, yea I like the 'cousin it' look haha! Just his nose pokes through!
...on a random note... I really need a bottle. Pyrex slide doesnt pull it off with style. That and shoulder-length hair and mutton chops down to my mouth, but I tried em and couldnt make it. =/
Thanks for an excellent pic, Donnah! Im adding it to my lil library of favorites!
And a reply to 'afan' from the end of last weeks posts:
Just reviewed the gear section in Poe's Skydog, and Duane used two 50watt Marshall bass heads. Before that he used the Vox superbeatle or a Fender Twin. When Chris Cross (Billy Gibbons' Texas 'guitar finder') had acquired the tobacco sunburst that Duane wanted, he also brought the Fender bassmans and a jazz bass for Berry. Doesnt say if the amps were used by Duane or Berry, tho. But the ABB didnt get Fender bassmans until March 25, 1971 (closing Fillmore) Tho it does say once he started up the ABB he used the Marshalls, not Vox.
Wailin On, like our great Skydog,
Ben
Hey Ben.. I have used both the fake Corcidan and the real thing (I got the one I use now off the Bay)
and the imperfections in the 'real thing' do add
some unique sounds that I hear in Duane's playing.
The fake one is actually more uniform so it lends itself well to learning...if that makes sense.
I just thought I would mention they sometimes are available on Ebay, but you have to look close.
Unfortunately, they are a little more fragile than
the fake ones, so I keep mine in a safe place most of the time.
As far as actual warmth and clarity, I absolutely love my Moonshine ceramic. I dropped it for a while but recently started using it again. It actually gives me better tone and playability than
any of the glass slides, and I'd bet Duane would
have shopped around later had he the chance. There are a lot of materials out there..Ceramic is
just awesome.
