Duane in 1965, on the road with the Allman Joys.
Wail on, Skydog!
See.. Even without a '59 Burst..or Eric Clapton
groveling in the foreground, Duane Allman dominated
the area around him.
Obviously, it was one of those midgets standing in the shade of McCrorey's that thought up the name Skydog.
Those boots look just like the one's that Robert Salteziak had when I was a youngin'..we were prohibited from owning them..AND anything else deemed 'Beatle'.
Thanks Donnah..you're one of my favorite crackers.
Posted by: csason at March 5, 2008 06:10 AMNow THAT is a cool pic!
Kind of a cross between Opie Taylor and Joe Dirt! The street looks kinda like downtown Macon but I guess it could be anytown USA back then. Where do you think it is?
Posted by: Gene Hardage at March 5, 2008 09:49 AMMayberry - for sure.
Posted by: Paco Malo at March 5, 2008 11:37 AMMacon looked generally like that - those kinds of street lights, the wide sidewalks, the parallel parking, but I can't place it as anyplace there in particular. In fact, I would think it is not Macon as there is a building blocking part of the street. Macon was very regular in its streets then - not like now. And I don't think Dwayne had any connection with Macon in 1965.
Posted by: Juan Paxety at March 5, 2008 03:24 PMThose boots look new or were shined alot! They were in way back then. Hard to believe a skinny little kid would shake the world with his slide guitar just a few years later and then pass so quickly from us. He was like a shooting star. His fire burned so bright it hurt you eyes, and then blink he was gone.
Any teenagers looking at this picture, take a good look. Yes, you can change the world with a guitar. Duane, "Rock on and have you a good time." We miss ya man!
Looks like Arcadia FL to me.
In fact, Arcadia still looks this way :)
Juan.. I am ashamed of you..Dwayne indeed.
Nancy, I was thinking the same thing..Arcadia or
Lk. Placid..or downtown Avon Park..when I first saw the photo, I thought..'Leesburg', where I grew up. I could even see the theatre down the street.
I knew when I wrote that you would think so...
Wachula, Bartow, Lake Alfred....
:)
I absolutely love downtown Lk. Placid..it's like
stepping back in time. They still have a old timey
car service center, it's too big to explain.
The best part is, it is thriving..people actually shop there, instead of Walnightmare.
Posted by: csason at March 6, 2008 07:22 PMAw cool pic!
(rememberingskydog)
Yea man... I wanna be that young man to "change the world with a guitar", tho I know it wont be as drastic as Duanes impact. I'd like to get good enough to play all his chops and make a tribute band or something... thats one of my dreams. Play like the good ole Skydog.
Ohhh and some NEVER BEFORE RELEASED music is on youtube. Im asking the guy for a copy of the set so I can keep it forever.

Theres also sections of Mtn Jam, but who knows what else will emerge and when!
Wailin On, like our beloved Skydog,
Ben
Ben, You go man! I hope you do change the world with your guitar! Believing in dreams make them happen! Keep playing that paul with those filmore pups! You are part of Duane's legacy! Keeping his memory and his chops alive!
Posted by: rememberingskydog at March 7, 2008 02:20 PMY'all, theres a new pic on the offical ABB site of Duane and Eric. http://www.allmanbrothersband.com/index.php?module=My_eGallery&do=showpic&pid=8489&orderby=dateD
Check it out!
Ben,download the free realplayer and then go to youtube. put your mouse over the video you want to record and a little box will come up, record this etc and it will record it. You can copy it to your windows media player and save it to your drive. Its free and legal. :>
Its not my Cross to Bear...excellent! Thanks for the link!
Posted by: rememberingskydog at March 7, 2008 11:49 PMumm..
You can also go to vixy.net and copy and paste the address for a vid into the adress line, select 'mp3 only' and it will rip just the audio out and save it for you.
I ripped Johnny Weismuller's Tarzan yell from a Youtube vid, then sent it to my phone for a ring tone.
Also legal, as far as I know.
Posted by: csason at March 8, 2008 05:19 AMSweeeeeeeeeeeet csason! Thanks man, it puts it in mp3 for me. Realplayer can only make it their own file, unless I wanna pay for their special one (booo) But I'll still download some as playlists with it cuz its faster.
(wanted to get some of those online files into my mp3 player to listen to at work)
Oh, does anyone have the Duane Allman dialogs? I had them bookmarked on youtube but they were removed.
