Big Finish!

How cool is that... I was wondering if Duane ever did the finale stomp. There is proof positive...looks like the end of a slide number too, I'm guessing Standback..or Don't Keep me Wondrin'.
Thx Donnah and ScotiaDave. Great stuff.
I've always thought of the song-finishing-stomp as the rock band leader version of conducting -- 'okay guys, when I hit the floor, everybody hits their final note'. Maestro Duane at his finest.

Thank you Donnah for all the pics and scotiadave for this particular one.

Posted by: cindy at May 7, 2008 01:46 PMDuane showing his incredible jumping ability. I think he could have dunked if he would have been wearing some P F Flyers instead of his boots. Baby Bro on the other hand lost a lot of his natural leaping talent with his unfortunate gun "accident" in the sixties.
Posted by: Willard at May 7, 2008 02:37 PMYou know, Paco..you nailed it.
The other night I was jamming with some guys and
I practically had to do that to end a song..lol.
Seems like we just keep flying and it's hard to stop...but it's fun.

I take that as a high compliment coming from you. Thanks.

Its from the end of the Love Valley Mtn Jam, and maaaaaaan Duane dragged that one out. I watched a series of clips (8 in total I think) that added up to over 45min of Mountain Jam in its entirety, and it was just SUPERB!
Video like this is proof of how involved and enveloped Duane was in that music and sound. It just flew through him and he was so expressive while playing. Bobbing around, hopping up and down, mouth-wide-open half-suprised-looking faces, head-banging... he was just dancin to his guitar swing once he got it rolling along.
Anyways... for those endings he has to be dramatic and go big, or someone may miss it, and they all had to keep on the edge to end right on time and keep that super-tight reputation. Man, you just cant beat the Allman Brothers Duane years for a tight band. I just wish that someday I can have a group that in tune and have as much fun as Duane did while playing.
Oh Oh OOOH I just got an AWESOME resonator guitar!! Will probably post some video of playing once I get something down. Its a Republic Tri Cone Resonator, and Lil Martha and The Weight sound PERFECT through it!
Posted by: Ben at May 8, 2008 04:42 PMI read with interest the posts regarding Duane's Gold top, because you see...I have it!!It did NOT sell in Orlando for 750K, I took it home again...anybody interested, feel free to email me, I'm thinking about putting it on the market again, or simply offering it for studio rental, hand delivered. Anyone with great closeup shots of the dog with this gtr, please send them, I'm putting together a power point with all info from the Layla sessions back to the first lick on statesboro blues.
Posted by: DW Hicks at May 10, 2008 07:01 AMHey man!
You've come to the right place. Down the main page a piece is a "Wednesdays Duane Allman Pic" section where you can glide through all picture blogs from this section that our delightful Donnah has posted here, and theres some GREAT shots of that guitar, the very ones you'd be looking for, Im sure. Also keep checking back, because more and more show up often!
Oh, and is the gold top that you are referring to the one thats in this video, or the other one thats got the gold/orange toggle switch?
(btw, I'd be a little interested... but I dont have the money to buy that axe, man! =P)
Hey Ben, did you happen to catch the guy that took a
52 GT to one of those antique road shows on TV ??
It was hilarious..he had no idea it was as valuable
as it was..
Naw I dont watch them, but ya I'd like to find a yard sale someday where an old guy has an old beater Gibson guitar out for $100 and it happens to be a 59!! XD
Supposedly there's still like 750 unaccounted for, which is almost 50% in existence... I just wanna find ONE!!! =P
My husband has a like brand new, '50 something Gibson.
I don't know guitar particulars because he makes his own, but I know it's called a jumbo and should be insured.
