Repost: A Layla-shirted Duane wouldn't say no to the VP slot.
Wail on, Skydog!
be like Duane and vote for a real democrat in '08: John McCain! (rimshot.)
Posted by: richard at June 5, 2008 12:00 AMAre you saying Obama/Allman or McCain-Allman ??
This picture gives further evidence exactly why
the Les Paul and the Layla shirt were invented.
Thanks Florida-Cracker.
Posted by: csason at June 5, 2008 08:07 AMToo bad the Layla-shirted Duane couldn't be our choice for the Presidential slot.....then I wouldn't have to write in "none of the above"! On second thought, I think I'll just write in the late, great, Howard Duane Allman! Man wouldn't that be something, Skydog as President.
Thank you Donnah!
Wail on, Skydog!
I don't come here to talk politics. I come here to avoid going further insane talking politics. You wanna talk politics: as Arlo Guthrie said, ".... Don't check my bag, if you please, Mister Customs Ma-an."
Right about the time Arlo was touring singing that song, Duane was having his picture taken -- in this shirt probably made by Clapton's seamstress (see FL Cracker Archives) -- while some of the most sacred music ever made was pouring out of his soul.
Politics comes and goes, the blues are forever!
Posted by: Paco Malo at June 5, 2008 03:01 PMI can't visit here as much as I used to, but I do remember the popularity of "tambourine girls." Below is a link to a pretty good one with Bo Diddly. BTW, I read that some of BD's tunes consisted of ONE chord and that the drive came from the rhythm. Is this one of them?

Here's the information I have on your Bo Diddley guitar question.
I saw him once at Tipitina's in 1978. Tip's is New Orleans' premiere music venue (Duane era ABB played The Warehouse because of the large audience they drew). The night I saw Bo, he was on fire in a way I'd never seen. With his trademark custom rectangular electric guitar, he put out the same you-gotta-move-to-this riff the whole night. That riff was all built out of one chord. That was all Bo Diddley needed to rock the house.
Posted by: Paco Malo at June 5, 2008 04:43 PMThanks, Paco -- lived in New Orleans 1979-1987. Tipitinas a rocking place, but never saw BD there. My loss.
