This is Governor Crist's first storm and he needs Jeb's manual. A Florida governor in hurricane season should always accompany words like "disaster" with "Will you idiots please pick up a few jugs of water and some bags of ice for yourselves?"
I'm going to skip the television coverage: I've seen enough spots of reporters in rain gear standing in front of gently swaying palm trees to last a lifetime. I'll stick with the National Weather Service's advisories and leave it at that.
Hopefully she'll realize what a terrible vacation destination Florida is in August and rebook for elsewhere.
I was just watching the FOX news field unit standing in Key Largo, and the water looked pretty glassy to me..and the lady in Noo Yawk was pissed, because nobody is running for their lives.
Chah Lee Crist is no guvnuh, Donnah.. he may be a lot of things..including weird for not owning land in the state he governs..but he has a long ways to go. I think he could make a good start by singing Swannee Ribber on Youtube, and shutting down El Sol in Jupiter.
Posted by: csason at August 17, 2008 09:41 AMActually.. to be perfectly candid about it..WE NEED this hurricane badly.. We barely have enough water to sustain the hordes as it is..
What I'd really like to see is six or seven cat 5 and 4 canes come blow all this crap back to wherever it came from.
Posted by: csason at August 17, 2008 09:56 AMFun drinking game: Cliches On the News, Severe Weather Version. How to Play: simply watch any network news broadcast with good severe weather coverage. Doa shot everytime you hear a cliche. Examples include but are not limited to "Batten down the hatches" "Bracing for the worst" and "Preparing for a viisit from Name-of-Storm."
Ya'll can come up here to Delmarva and stay with me if you want to. :)
"Hunker down."
Posted by: Donnah at August 17, 2008 11:15 AMOh, that too! Also "ride it out." And "storm of the century/decade." There are at least five of those every season.
Posted by: Starla Darling at August 17, 2008 12:31 PMI just want her to scoot on up and dump a shitload of H2O on ETlanta ~ stay there fer a week'd be fine ~ so they'll keep their filthy paws offen our water.
Posted by: panhandle cooter at August 18, 2008 12:09 PMThis is all my fault...sorry.
I left after the '04 season, and have only been back a few weeks and look what happens.......
But it will be interesting to see how Crist handles things...
Posted by: Tammi at August 18, 2008 12:58 PMCrist ... Oh you can bet he's pissed. This was supposed to be his debut storm, and it acts just like him..Hangs around, doesn't really deliver, never actually adds up to anything, and won't be the VP, either.
Sorry Chahlee..only the best hurricanes get to be
governor builders.
Florida needs to march on Atlanta and give them a comprehensive lesson on xeriscaping.
