From the St. Pete series, Duane and Berry backstage.
Wail on, Skydog!
Things sure have changed at Rose Hill..at least since 76 they have.
Pretty obvious here why folks said Berry looked like Jesus...Plus, Duane looks pretty cool hanging out with Jesus...I just didn't know he could play bass so damn good.
Wail on, Skydog..we'll manage the heretics and non-believers while you get the streets of gold all ready for Donnah and her other friends besides me..
Thanks Donnah..you can untie your lawnchairs now..I think FOX said the worst is over.
Posted by: csason at August 20, 2008 08:07 AMIn case folks don't know, the band that Berry and Dickey played in was The Second Coming, named because of Berry's resemblance to Jesus.
Jacksonville musicologist Mike Fitzgerald posted a recollection of going to see Second Coming and finding some new guitar player sitting in.

Posted by: Juan Paxety at August 20, 2008 08:46 AMWhat is not generally known is that, if you asked nicely and he liked you, Berry would take out his signed, autographed and authenticated picture of Jesus himself and stand next to it, so you could see they were dead ringers.
lol Hey, wanna buy this real neat statue of a lady holding a torch?
I think this one was taken in the "Winny". Duane was a "hand talker" if this picture is any indication. A pic of a couple of friends shooting the breeze.......nice.
Yea csason, lots of changes thanks to creeps that thought it was alright to mess with final resting places. I was at Rose Hill Memorial Day weekend. Went really early, very quiet with a mist rising from the river.....very serene. The fence fits in very well with the vibe at Rose Hill. Peace for the family left behind. I think the Brothers would approve.
Donnah, I hope Fay didn't bother you too much. Thank you as usual....And of course....
Wail on, Skydog!
Posted by: cindy at August 20, 2008 10:45 AMA very animated hand talker, if I'm not mistaken. Wonder what they were talking about... to be a fly on the wall..
Posted by: Starla Darling at August 20, 2008 02:44 PMSt. Paul and Jesus never met, except in this photo. A sacred ABB iconic photo -- thanks Donnah!
Posted by: Paco Malo at August 20, 2008 03:15 PMI'm sure that it isnt a coincidence that Duane and (having the spiritual powers of communicating guitar lines that spoke louder than words) Berry (who was kind and gentle and always the peacemaker in the band, and who looked like Jesus) were both taken from us so early in life.
It has always seemed to me that the souls here on earth that are taken young are spiritually much more advanced then the rest of us.
Maybe thats why their light shown show much brighter than the rest of us and burnt out so quickly.
Wail on Skydog and Berry!
Posted by: rememberskydog at August 20, 2008 04:43 PMWhat are you saying remembering, that the rest of us
old farts are dimwitted sinners ???? J/K..
Starla..Dahling, I think Duane was saying "Da da..da da d..dum da dd da dah!" All the while, Berry was thinkin' 'Gypsy Woman told my mama Whilst I was born...'
Posted by: csason at August 20, 2008 05:26 PMIf the shoe fits csason!
And I alas; am from the same Duane Allman Era so..of course it would applies to me as well, but I dont agree with what you said and have no idea where you are coming from.
I am just glad Duane & Berry were with us, even though they left us way too soon!
As I get older and my health isnt as good as it was I now understand the youthful lament, "hope i die before I get old!"
Its a lot less complicated and more memorable and yes even romantic to others when we pass earlier than later.
And who can explain the unexplainable, the life and times of the great Duane Allman will always be remembered. Us mortals will not be that lucky!
Wail on, everybody! lol

Nah...you're right..the young are and bright ones do seem to be the first to go.
In fact, I have too many examples to mention.
I guess I have a little Mickey Mantle stuff goin' on..you know, If I knew I was going to live this long, I woulda taken better care of myself.
Where's my autoharp?
I'm gonna play In the Sweet By and By....join me, I'm in D ...
There's a land that is fair-er than day,
and by faith we can see it a-far,
and the Father waits o-ver the way,
preparing a dwelling place there,
In the sweeeet.....
I'm just crackin' on ya cause I'm not in the DA loop :)
Posted by: nancy at August 20, 2008 07:35 PMI know that song! Know how?
From the Little House on the Prairie books!
*stands up and belts it out*
There is a happy land, far far away,
Where saints in Glory stand,
Bright, bright as day!
*sits down*
Posted by: Starla Darling at August 20, 2008 07:42 PMMy brother once said, "The only way out of the Allman Brothers is death." Then they fired Dickey by fax.
I guess he got off light.
Unlike Chuck Leavell, who was sentenced to 20 years of pounding Rolling Stones......
Posted by: mike the bike at August 21, 2008 12:29 AMI consider Chuck to be egg, not ham.
Posted by: Donnah at August 21, 2008 12:59 AMme too
Posted by: csason at August 21, 2008 11:39 AMIs that green egg, not ham? I would turn green if I had to look at Mick's ass that long! Oh no,I have started it now ;)!
Hope Fay moves on for ya'll real soon....she is welcome up here in hot'lanta!
Posted by: cindy at August 21, 2008 01:00 PMLooks like y'all may be getting some of it now, ma'am...
Posted by: csason at August 23, 2008 09:17 AMChuck looks pretty happy with his new gig counting off for the boys during rehearsal in the new Scorsese movie "Shine a Light" on da Stones.
Me, gimme "Stewarty" (Ian Stewart;the sixth real stone; then Mick Taylor, then Ronnie) any day; but I like Chuck with the ABB and like him with the RSs.
I guess I gotta face it, I'm addicted to blues rock and Donnah Wednesdays 8 days a week.
