My voting went smoothly. Hopefully the tallying goes likewise.
Good luck to both John McCain and Jimmy Carter and may the best man win.
The whole thing only took about 15 minutes, but my polling spot is out on HW31, 30 miles from Arcadia...that was just what I expected.
Then, I came home and played every patriotic song I knew. Both of them, I mean.
My voting went smoothly also. I came to the poll in the late morning and there was one machine that had crashed or something and the line was backed up, so I ran some errands and came back a couple hours later and was in and out in a few minutes.
Here's something funny: somebody running for a state office was with the Blue Enigma Party. Anybody heard of that? I was tempted to vote for them just on the basis of such a cool party name, but good sense prevailed. Blue Enigma... isn't that a great name for a band, or a song? Or a spy, or a car, or maybe a drink?
Tarheel and the crew will start the installation of a slurry wall in Indiana tomorrow. Guess for what...
a coal mine....I'm not shitting you, DonnahLee.
Jimmy's favorite industry.
A coal mine...how unfortunate.
As soon as I saw "Blue Enigma" I thought "What a great name for a band!"

Yay !! White guilt wins.. !!
I voted, but the nosey yankee poll jerker tried to
stop me from asking my wife how to spell Jefferson on the write in spot.
idiots
Posted by: csason at November 5, 2008 07:48 AMIn my experience, guilt is not nearly so strong a motivator (in any situation, politics especially) as some would like to believe. People are very rarely guilted into doing anything really important, even if they have every reason to feel guilty.
Too bad you don't have the Blue Enigma Party, Owen. That might have cheered you up if you could've voted for them. :)
I looked them up last night, apparently it stands for (at least in this state) legalization of sports betting and poker rooms in casinos, green energy, unified state school systems with higher teacher's salaries, and police presence in high-crime areas.
Sounds like a party from Cuba if you ask me.. I am more of a 'stay the F out of my life' type government person myself.. We have a two party system in this country..the NannyStaters..and the NON-NannyStaters.
We have now nearly 70 million who like the idea of more government intrusion, as in it's ok not to were a helmet on a motorcycle, but you will pay if you don't have a seatbelt on in your car. As in, the couple who were charged with child neglect for allowing their child to play on a snowsled with no helmet.
The white guilt trip is not my words, those are the words of the insane media blobwerks. The south has been heavily desegregated for over a hundred years, as in 12 years of Reconstruction, not like New Hampshire which is 5 % non-white, but only three people from NH voted for McCain.
I paid my dues, and I didn't eben owe none.
We have our first Affirmative Action POTUS, and the neocon GOP will certainly start priming a hispanic or black for 2012, to run against Hussein.
Posted by: csason at November 5, 2008 03:58 PMObama is now the President and the Commander and Chief. It's so stupid I have to laugh, but this may be a good thing.
McCain was sucker punched with the campaign finance, and who would of ever thought that federal money would have supported a obviously biased voting machine like ACORN, but there is no shame to him for these things. However, his lack of concern to protect the American public by not shouting from the rooftops the background information of Obama is neglectful.
Using the Swift Boat discrepancies or Willie Horton to embarrass a candidate can be called dirty, but keeping a lid on the facts that those in O's, personal ring of friends all hate America... that is negligence, and a telling aspect of how John might make decisions.
In the end though, "no man is in power except by God" even the bad ones. By grace csason, this may finally put to rest race blaming, once and for all.
The first analogy I thought of this morning was a song by Al Wilson "The Snake" it's on youtube.
Take a listen.
Yeah..sure, "no man is in power except by God"
I had a three year old who had a stoke, and eventually died. What I learned about God was, if you want to shoot yourself, or if you want to have a sex change..He (or she) will let you.
He will also let 70 million people become brainwashed about multi-culturalism and political correctness to the point if they choose to collectively shoot themselves in the head..He will allow that also.
The truth is we are owned by Goldman Sachs and the mass media.
Their isn't much difference between McCain and Obama, except while Obama was planning to overthrow the government, ol John was trying to
make dinner out of a roach and some warm water in between arm breakings...talk about the adacity of hope- Wonder who would have the audacity to hope when a chinese AK rifle butt is breaking your jaw ?
The biggest problem I see is we are watching the history of the ages unfold before our eyes...a full on democracy leads to socialism, and then to communism..even if it is called by another name.
Whatever vestiges of a representative republic we once had, are long since gone..Thanks MSNBC and CNN and all the rest..
Posted by: csason at November 6, 2008 06:15 AMIt's all true... everything you said.
However, I'm pissed that the suggestion of being called a racist was more painful than 5 years in POW camp.
What makes me happy though, is thinking that black theology preachers may have to feed their flock with the scripture as their text.
And, life will never be the same for Bill A., for he has been exposed.
You wish has been granted Donnah: the best man won.
Has anyone seen the video on Michelle Malkin's site about the African-American teacher that bullies the soldier's little daughter, and makes her cry.
...told her if McCain wins her daddy would be in Iraq another 100 years. Lovely.
I'm e-mailing Ashville's school super.
Howdy Crackers - been a long, long campaign and I'm glad it's over.Csason, surely our Republic is stronger than one man with a messiah complex, a cult of personality, and a bunch of media stooges attending to his every need. We survived 4 years of Jimmah and that begat Reagan. This too shall pass...I hope. And not empty, hopey changey hope.

Posted by: Hamous at November 7, 2008 07:58 PMWell,Hamous, I hope, for everyone's sake, that you are wrong about our next president. I am sure you hope so too. There's no denying there's room for improvement - things are a mess right now.
Take care, ya'll. Let's work together!!!
Posted by: Jimishelter at November 7, 2008 08:14 PMJimi - I don't think I've made any predictions about Barry. All I've said is he is a man with a messiah complex, a cult of personality, and a bunch of media stooges attending to his every need, and he hobnobs with terrorists. Oh, and racist "preachers". I'm willing to wait and see what the next four years brings. Don't have much of a choice, do I? Unless I pull a Democrat tactic and threaten to expatriate myself to a foreign country. Like I said yesterday, I believe our Republic is stronger than Barry.
Posted by: Hamous at November 7, 2008 08:25 PM*shrugs* Jeremiah Wright didn't say anything that Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and others of that ilk hadn't also said. Revenge of the black man, revenge of the dead fetuses, revenge of the emasculated male, revenge of the grossed-out straight people, take your pick: some smug moral handwasher has used 9/11 to further just about any whacked-out ideology he or she might hold.
Posted by: Starla Darling at November 7, 2008 09:03 PMLOL, Hamous. I wasn't referring to any predictions. I hope you are wrong about this: "he is a man with a messiah complex, a cult of personality, and a bunch of media stooges attending to his every need, and he hobnobs with terrorists."
I don't think you are right- but we're both going to have to watch and see.
For the record, I am extremely pleased with the results of this election.
Funny story-a few minutes after the networks called if for Obama, I heard something blasting outside my window. I opened the door, and it was some cat blasting out a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, a la Jimi Hendrix. Played pretty good too.
I took it as a good omen. :-)
Posted by: Jimishelter at November 7, 2008 09:50 PMJimi, ...don't need to "overthrow the government"
a little leaven will leaven the whole loaf...won't see it work till the bread is high and light.
Wright is a base, vulgar man.
Keep those standards high Starla.
You betcha! Took less than eight years this time! :-)

Posted by: nancy at November 8, 2008 04:56 AMSooner will a camel pass through a needle's eye than a great man be 'discovered' by an election- Adolf Hitler.
I hardly find it plausible one could equate Rev. Wright's comments about 'rich WHITE people' with anything Falwell or any other relatively prominent
preacher has said..in fact, I'd guess if Falwell said, "America is being destroyed by poor black people"..he'd be prosecuted for a hate crime.
The point is that obammy sat fervently in his church, with his children, for twenty years..but you know what ?? What bothers me is that that kind of garbage is being spewed incessantly EVERYWHERE now..
I mean...I've got people (if you want to call them that) threatening my white daughters because they don't want to go out with black people.
They are told online to kill themselves because they are white and worse..from the dreaded south..(oh my)
The so-called 'white guilt' and 'white hate' is so thick you can cut it with a knife..and it is sickening..THIS is what we have come to, after
the sad, messed up total war policies of Lincoln..which left the South decimated, when only 5% of the south owned slaves..and yet, now, if you even let on that you have some cultural pride, you better not be white when you do it, or you are a hater.
I took the pledge...I submitted to the federal version of historical events, and I am fully aware that whites will be a minority by 2050.
It still does not mean I have to pretend it's 'rough sex' when I am being raped.
Y'all check back in when the Public Allies crew gets into full swing.
Personally, I am on the same page with Vermont and
the Middlebury Institute. This country is now an empire.
We have become the world's po-po, and I blame the
handlers for it's demise..including GWB. If people don't stop listening tot he talking heads and pundits we are all going to be peons in this game.
George Washington, a big fat slaver, warned us about ALL of this. Foreign aid, foreign wars...pre-emptive (wtf) wars.. globalism..none of it works.
We have all been sold a lie. Division is used as a tool against us to sell the NWO..and just prior to that the NAU..and all of those who think otherwise, tell us why there are 15 million coffins in Georgia (our Georgia) placed there by FEMA, and why is the 1st Brigade of the Third Div.
on duty on U.S. soil..for 'civil unrest' ?
Y'all better get in line and do what the Messiah says..or you'll be on the list.
It's the federal beast against freedom and liberty, plain and simple..you're either a nanny-stater, or like me...you wish the government was
for defense only.
The feds have no business in education.
They have no business in social engineering.
They have no business in taking my money to give it to anyone else.
They have no business in owning ALL the property.
They have no business in telling me what I can and cannot think.
They have no business is propagating division.
They have no business in sending our children to fight for someone else's interests.
They have no business in defining 'hate speech'
If I want to hate someone..THAT is my business.
Posted by: csason at November 8, 2008 08:48 AMStarla Darling - The huge difference is McCain, or any other presidential candidate of either party in my lifetime, didn't sit in Jerry Falwell's or Pat Robertson's church for 20 years and listen to hate-filled, racist sermons. They weren't married in that church. They didn't have their children baptized in the waters of that hate.
If McCain's preacher of the last 20 years had been that whacked out goon in Kansas that protests military funerals the media would have crucified him as soon as he announced his candidacy. Deep down you know that.
Posted by: Hamous at November 8, 2008 11:22 AMIf Wright, or Ayres, were anomalous coincidences then one could give O the benefit of the doubt. Or, if the discourse was about benevolent social issues, that would be even noble. However, there was a pattern of alliances with extremely anti-American personalities that held political philosophies not indigenous to America, and in many opinions, they spat sedition inaddition to hate. One rebuttal, often heard, was that it wasn't relevant.
That logic can not be plumed with either deductive, or inductive reasoning, and was an insult to our intelligence. Furthermore, who decides what is relevent to stakeholders.
Worse, the MSM allowed it without challenge.
I compared it to juiced up athletes. Performance enhancement.
My disappointment does not come from sour grapes, party, or racial bias.
In the annuals of presidential cycles, maybe a generation or so from now, it will be noted, sited, and referred to with shame.
Well.. sry, but when 95 % of a racial block votes for one candidate, and he is a member of the that race, and he is also a member of a church that espouses hate for the opposite race, guess what..I take notice, and then I side with my race.
I am sorry that the Untied States ever allowed slavery to begin with..since, after ALL the effort has been made to heal those wounds..it has come down to 'white hate'...for those who are just too damn chicken to admit it, fine..
It is ridiculous to argue policy in regards to Obama, as he has none. For that matter, and for the record, neither did John McCain, nor does he still..the best he could do was find a real conservative, draft her..and then quickly throw her to the wolves after she expired.
So the one party system rolls on..There isn't a dimes worth of difference between the two parties..and they aren't really looking out for anyone but themselves..The African-American..or black people, as they once were known as before is became racist to say that, will NOT benefit any more under Obama than they did under Bush.
We may even see the opposite occur, since we really have no idea WHAT Obama's handlers will have him do..If Rahm is the indicator of things to come..
Oh well.. I have live in a country that no longer represents me, nor what I was taught in federal sanctioned schools that would be represented, and I survived that..Obama is nothing.
I might even become a Public Allies Sensitivity
employee..I could be the example of what not to be like.
Obama getting 95% of the black vote doesn't bother me that much. Yeah, I think it proves beyond reasonable doubt that white folks don't have a lock on racism. And sure its a double standard. But the black vote accounted for 11%. It is mathematically impossible for him to be elected without a majority of the white vote. What bothers me most is that a man (of any color) that is by his own admission clearly steeped in Marxist tradition could garner 53% of all votes. Chalk it up to what Lenin called useful idiots.
Csason, I understand your frustration, but I won't allow myself to share your pessimism. If our cause is just, as I believe it is, if the constitutional republic our founding fathers envisioned is superior, as I believe it is, this is merely a bump in the road for the greatest nation in the world.
Posted by: Hamous at November 9, 2008 12:11 PMSarah Palin was abused. I'm disappointed that there has not been a female in the media world gracious enough to take her side in regards to wardrobegate. 150,000$ is chump change to clothe a women that represents her country, while her every attribute is being observed.
If that's not enough, she had just given birth, and was due for a closet refreshment.
Ask Oprah was she pays for one bra.
But Sarah was left to explain for herself, when she had nothing to justify.
"Someone" snickering wanted to embarrass her as a tacky charity case. I hated it that she was made to feel that way.
She'll get over it. She's probably got book deals and talk show appearances in the works already, so she can cry all the way to the bank.
Posted by: Starla Darling at November 9, 2008 01:58 PM Yea, there is a sunny side...she can be proud that she earned it, will be paying taxes on it, and
will be supporting the "trickle up" economy as well.
Wardrobe ??
Of all the cheap shots..I am really amazed that is the best that the left could come up with..I wonder how much Goldman-Sachs spent on Bama's threads..
What really should be headlines now is that the McCAin camp couldn't even finish his "awe..you beat me" speech before they were lambasting every small nuance about Sarah..fine, I am sure even if it's just go back to AK and be herself, that she has something for the neocons.
And it was FAUX that 'spilled the dirt' on her..
McCain is a socialist, and Bama is a Marxist..get used to it, whatever was once America is no longer here. They used Sarah to appeal to ALL those un-represented folks out there in the heartland.
Word to the wise..
There were 200 million people who saw no need to vote for either one.
Wonder how Obama is going to handle them...?
Posted by: csason at November 10, 2008 07:31 AMI'm a white man. And I'm so happy that the US does no longer belong to white men. If you see what I mean. I could tell the difference between Obama/Biden and McCain/Palin, just as I can tell the difference between Allman Brothers and Michael Jackson.
Do you know the difference between Michael Jackson and a grocery bag?
One is white, made of plastic, and is harmful to children.
The other you carry your groceries home in.
Well, shit howdy. Sure glad I'm as late to the conversation as ever.
Posted by: panhandle cooter at November 10, 2008 10:39 PMWell the U.N. has some stats about being white you might be interested in, Peter.. In 1900, whites made up 30% of the world's people..in 2100, they estimate that whites will make up .9%.
Where is the outcry from the human rights people ?
I wonder what the function of the last white child will be ?
I guess I am rather sensitive to the subject, since all my daughters have spent most of their lives being slammed and groped and pushed and shoved by guys like the married man that knocked Obama's mama up.
Or maybe it's because my family, who arrived here in the 1700's never owned any humans, black or otherwise..yet we had to suffer the awful conditions of this federal beast imposed during reconstruction..
Or maybe it's because most people can tell you more about Simon than they can Andrew Johnson.
Posted by: csason at November 11, 2008 07:38 AMMany thanks to the Veterans today.
Posted by: nancy at November 11, 2008 10:08 AMWell Owen, my own family has been in this country for many thousands of years. If you want to play the "I was here first" game, it won't work so well. If you want to play the "We used to own this country now it's gone to the Mud People" you're also barking up the wrong tree, because this country was never yours to own, and it certainly wasn't "won" in the "first come first served" manner.
Seriously now, friends,
It's time to bury the hatchet (heh-heh)
hoe and plow, and the
Stars and Bars.
I'm willing it should be buried, I wasn't going to say anything at all, except some of the things that have been said in this section have been really just very ugly and hurtful, and not just to some faceless, abstract "group" but also to living, feeling individual human beings.
BTW: Are you *the* Jimmy Carter, or have you just borrowed his name? If you did borrow it, do you have to pay royalties?
We should beat Donnah Lee's ass for this.
I would've like to have seen the world's oldest veteran, boy scouts...hunky marines...something;
besides looking at Shrek's two big headed kids for another day.
Well, tomorrow is Wednesday, so we will get to look at at least one hunk, though not one in uniform. :)
Posted by: Starla Darling at November 11, 2008 09:20 PMYeah..We'll all *get over it*.
Not the corporations..THEY don't pay taxes..not really, they just pass it on.
NOt those who are on SSI, or any other kind of entitlement program..(unless you are one of those unfortunate retirees like my Mom who pays income taxes on her SS) nor will the illegals..NONE of those people will have to get over anything.
But if you actually work, and cough up the bucks in taxes every year..then yes YOU will HAVE to get over it. Forget that ACORN bribes your reps
for cash, and then signs up dead people and sports
celebrities to vote..
FORGET any real discussion about who the POTUS be hangin wif, like Ayers.. or God knows who else..
Forget that the Dept. of Justice 2005 stats show
nearly 40,000 black on white sexual assaults buried by the media, and less than 10 white on black assaults for the same time period..just get over it.
Forget that Sarah Palin is a real live human being..let's just make up some dirt about her kids and faking births so she can be a politician.. She'll get over it.
She is a republican.. she can take it.
csason,
you seem a decent man and a loving father. with a lot of anger and frustration coloring your views.
I'm not American, I have no preference except quality, beauty, truth and love.
I don't see how it matters how many people on this globe are white. Is there some special merit in being white ? And even if there were, would having been born in a white family be something to claim credit for ? Obviously the future of this planet, if we don't destroy it that is, is that all people will be colored to some degree. And no one will care.
About Sarah Palin: she strikes me as ambitious and happily ignorant of her own limitations. Serious limitations for a political leader. The 150.000 thing wasn't important, but the last people on earth with a right to whine about such attacks are the people that practised or condoned the art of attacking. You know who I mean.
So many people all over the world, black, white and everything inbetween, were jubilant at Obama's victory. Why would that be ? Are they all stupid, meanspirited, ignorant ?
I'll tell you about one of them: to see phoneyness, callousness, blind ambition, indifference and cynicism finally lose to ideals and inspiration, it's such a joy. The world is a beter place for it already.
Well done USA.

Posted by: Starla Darling at November 12, 2008 03:30 PMWhy is freedom better than Barak Obama?
because your sad when freedom is gone.
I am a paleo-conservative of the first order..we value kith and kin above all else, the reasons for that I shan't go into, suffice it to say it is bone deep.
I care not for the world's ambitions, but I am pre-disposed by birth to protect my family, my hearth and my community it seems..and when I hear of people who have no real accurate conception of who I am, and the host I represent..*yet* they talk of using more social engineering to *correct me*, I take it seriously.
I'll bet I have three times the friends and acquaintances of color and differing nationalities
than 90% of the people I meet..and brother, I live in the demographically enhanced portion of America..nothing like New Hampshire..Florida has nearly twenty cities in the top violent 100, according to City Data...and EVERYONE of those friends know exactly how and why I feel the way I do, and don't fault me for it.
I am just not one of those who really tries to live by the lyrics of John Lennon, like some of my friends..I rather enjoy diversity, not seek to squash it.
I guess the difference in thinking is that some folks actually try to get others to believe that there is no reason to preserve cultural and national differences..
I am one of those old weird people that thinks that America was actually formed to escape religious persecution for one, and was founded by a clearly Christian..not *Judeo-Christian*..but a clearly Christian bunch of folks..and now there is an assault to turn America into a kind of giant
Bahamas.
It has become chic to attack my culture.
I don't like it.
If that's below your enlightened stance..so be it.
