Wednesday's Duane Allman Pic

duaneshafmusfest450.jpg
A new one from the Schaefer Music Fest gig with (the late) Delaney and Bonnie, 8/70.
He did like to use the end of his guitar as an ashtray, but not here. Hah.
Wail on, Skydog!

If I was in his position, I'd be a lot more careful with open flames around my guitars. They don't grow on trees, ya know.

Posted by: Starla Darling at January 13, 2009 09:34 PM

Well Donnah, another new one.....how do you do it? Never mind I don't want to know how....just keep doing it.

Palpable passion in this pic. DA was, as Berry used to say, hitting the note here for sure. Was there ever another guitarist with such passion? If there was or is, I ain't heard 'em!!! It must have been hot....sweat rings around the neck and down the front of the shirt. Can't believe anybody that skinny could sweat that much...no wait, he probably spilled that last swig of beer he took.

Thank you Donnah, a true, new Wednesday wonder.

Wail on, Skydog!

Middle-aged farts finally getting MySpaces has helped a lot. They're uploading their old pics (blessings of heaven upon them).

Posted by: Donnah at January 14, 2009 10:26 AM

Proof positive Duane knew he couldn't sing..So, he used that picking finger as a substitute...unlike Starla's finger..which she reserves JUST for me
and my poignant suggestions.

Posted by: csason at January 14, 2009 10:34 AM

I guess I need to get a MySpace then....after all middleagedoldfart is my middle name! Last week Lisa gets me with the Gumby Hippie line and this week Donnah pegs me with the old fart line....God I love this place! Not to mention I get to have a blast from the past every week too....it doesn't get much better!

Posted by: cindy at January 14, 2009 10:43 AM

Well I think I got a Myface, or Spacebook something or other..

Posted by: csason at January 14, 2009 12:39 PM

Yep, and don't you feel special Owen? Knowing that particular gesture is not just used on random reckless drivers and ogling construction workers?

Posted by: Starla Darling at January 14, 2009 06:00 PM

Thanks for that!
Best,
P.

All Duane singing would do is get in the way of music for the gods.

Owen, watch out if yer gonna flirt with our Darling Starla; she is quite the siren, I write from the rocks her siren song crashed me upon.

Wail on Skydog. Keep on keepin' on Donnah, you are the Best Cracker this ole world wide web has got. And, speaking for all us Duaniacs, a big New Year's Thank You.

Posted by: Paco Malo at January 14, 2009 08:11 PM

I think he's flirting with you too, Paco. I mean, he did seem very protective of your washcloths and socks and all. Maybe he likes your fabric softener.

Hey, I always enjoyed Duane's singing! His singing is an acquired taste like Bob Dylan, Neil Young and many others. You gotta chuckle to yourself with the humor of Duane's unfinished anthem "Happied Married Man." I just flat love him singing, "Dimples." And warning the fans there that he wasnt much of a singer, but felt like singing. How cool is that! Im sure Duane would have laughed with the comments made, and winked and then bowled us over with one of those drop dead solos. The ones that laughed, cried and sang with every song he played. (wink) " I'm going get me a carrrrrrrrrr, and head on down the road. Dont have to worry no more, bout that broke down raggedly Fooord. "Wail on skydog! Play the blues!

Posted by: rememberingduane at January 14, 2009 09:31 PM

RD, my favorite Duane vocal is without a doubt, "Goin' Down Slow" ..unlike Starla who, if she keeps it up, will be goin down fast..after I slap her with MY rolled up beach towel sized sock...

BTW, Those guitars DID grow on trees..Nice 1/4 sawn Eastern Rock Maple trees..blended with post-war Michigander craftsmanship, and a dash of Alnico long magnets..topped off with a chunk of Black Holly.

We better knock it off, Dahling, before Donnah whips out her spay/neuter pen and reduces my towel
to a 0.1 Dacron fiber... ;)

Thank you Missus Florida Cracker, for your fastidious Skydog flame on this freezing Florida
morn.

Posted by: csason at January 15, 2009 06:49 AM

RD I like Duane singing too. Take a listen to the Gatlinburg tapes.......well maybe when he was a little straighter(sp) than that but anyway. He sounded alot better than Neil Young who, in my opinion, can't sing his way out of a wet paper sack! Maybe I just can't wait to hear him wail away and I know it's coming whether he is singing or not.

Oh and csason and Starla.....ya'll gonna have to get a room!;)

Thanks again Donnah, you rock!

Wail on, Skydog!

keep on keeping on skydog

Posted by: Baron Thoma at January 15, 2009 01:08 PM

I went and looked up "No Money Down" the song that RD references, after I picked myself up off the floor where Owen had knocked me. Cute, cute, cute song, and hilariously funny as well. He sure doesn't want much in a car, does he? Also way ahead of his time, what with the color TV and phone he insisted on. And who was supposed to be driving that thing while he's in the back on the featherbed watching TV and gabbing on the phone?
But thanks, RD. Now I have a new song to add to my "funny songs" collection.

Posted by: Starla Darling at January 15, 2009 06:01 PM

Starla, glad you enjoyed it too! Too bad he never finished it. No guitar solo. I love to go down the road singing it. And i had forgotten the best vocal he ever did....Goin down slow. Blues doesnt get better than that. Cool thing bout the blues...it doesnt have to be pretty just heartfelt.
I have been blessed to know a certain someone in Florida who was raised in Atlanta and over the years collected most of the bootlegs available of Duane's, including the Gatlinburg tapes...Duane is high as a kite but singing really well, playin his dobro and singing Hank Williams too. lol Too bad the kid who recorded him back then only had like one 60 minute cassette on him. Great stuff. Imagine the stuff we could have heard if he would have had a 5 pack. lol

Donnah have you heard about Marion Sindorf? Thought you ought to know.

I'm just happy I don't have to read any crotch comments this week. The way things were progressing I thought we were going to get some full frontal outtake photos from that ABB album. I understand where you ladies are coming from, but I'd just as soon imagine my Duane clothed and wailin' on rather than how big his "pre amp" is and whether it goes right or left.
As for Duane vocals, " I ain't seen my wife for 2 or 3 years, I'm a happily married man, When I get tired I just lay down, I sleep wherever I am, now the comb and the powder are gone from the sink, and I don't have to worry 'bout a drink, I ain't seen my my wife for 2 or 3 years, I'm a happily married man!

Posted by: Willard at January 17, 2009 02:32 PM

Well Willard, the full frontal outtakes aren't a bad idea, you know. I know she's got em!
Right, Cindy?

Posted by: Starla Darling at January 18, 2009 06:32 PM

;D!

Posted by: cindy at January 19, 2009 02:46 PM

guess I need to get out my Eastern Rock Maple again..

Hey, for those who might be interested, Coach Leonard Skinner is making his last public appearance
this Saturday in Jacksonville.
It promises to be a very nice event..Gene Odom, Ronnie Van Zant's long time chum, who was on the plane when it crashed, as well as possibly some 'special guests' will be there..food, music, and fun, also.

email me at co.i.50th.ga.vol.infAThotmailDOTcom

if you want details..

sry Starla, no frontal shots probably.

Posted by: csason at January 19, 2009 08:37 PM

That's okay, Owen, I've got a nice shot tucked away already. Got it for my birthday, remember?
Wanna get flipped off again? For flashing that maple around?
It isn't maple-sugar season yet, after all.

Naked pictures of Duane?! oooOOOOooo!

My brother has mentioned to me that such pictures exist. (he's the one who was kind enough to discover Duane when we were kids back around 1972 or so - of course Duane had already left us with only his great music to enjoy by then. My brother had bought "The Allman Brothers Band" album & Duane has been THE man ever since).

Anyway, one day some years back I was bored at work & had recently acquired internet access, so I thought, "Hmmm, I'm gonna do a search for "duane allman naked." Well, when I clicked "go" all these windows started opening/popping up all over. And I mean a whole sh*t load of 'em! I'm not kidding. I was like "Oh. My. God. I am SO fired." I'm totally freakin' out cuz I'm gonna break the COMPUTER & somehow they'd find out what I was DOING and blah, blah, BLAH... I just reached down & shut the damn thing off! Luckily everything was okay, nobody ever said anything to me at work thank God, but I never did get to see any pictures! :(

Now I'll admit that I've done a search since then, after I took plenty of time to heal from that ordeal, and nothing bad happened except I again never saw any pictures so I just gave up on that idea.

Donnah, if you could please possibly send the picture(s) my way I'd be forever in debt to ya. Is my email address visible to you? I sure would love to see them after all these years of hearing about them and all the suffering. ;)

Posted by: Lisa at January 20, 2009 03:46 PM

Lisa, Starla and I got copies for our birthdays. When is your birthday? Donnah is real generous with her birthday gifts.

Posted by: cindy at January 20, 2009 04:46 PM

Awww darn, Cindy - my birthday done passed! It's December 1st. :(

Posted by: Lisa at January 20, 2009 05:05 PM

Hey Donnah, could you help out our suffering sister here and send her something nice? Kind of a belated b-day present? I mean, Cindy got hers a month after her b-day.

Posted by: Starla Darling at January 20, 2009 05:32 PM

Thank you Starla!

Yes Donnah, please listen to Starla and end my years of suffering!

Posted by: Lisa at January 20, 2009 05:51 PM

Ready to get yourself initiated into the Sisterhood of the Vanishing Pants, Lisa? Still time to back out and tell Donnah not to send the goods? lol

Posted by: Starla Darling at January 20, 2009 06:03 PM

Good Lord..

Statesboro Blues just ain't good enough for ya, huh ?

Donnah, really.. you keep this up and Duane is gonna show up on some NAMBLA porn site with a spiked
collar and a ball strapped in his mouth.. :(

Posted by: csason at January 20, 2009 11:09 PM

On second thought..maybe I should just ask the 'skin
queen' if she has any cheesecake shots of Bonnie..

Posted by: csason at January 20, 2009 11:11 PM

csason I am very disappointed in you....we would never disrespesct Skydog that way. We just want to know/see everything he has to offer! Now you wanting 'sumpn' special' from Donnah concerning Bonnie...that's just wrong.;D

Ain't it Ladies?

Posted by: cindy at January 21, 2009 10:18 AM

The ladies close up ranks, giving Owen freezing looks. My my, such petty jealousy and insecurity!

Posted by: Starla Darling at January 21, 2009 10:21 AM

I'm with ya on that Cindy. A picture like that would be for my eyes only. I would NEVER do anything to disrespect great Duane or his memory.

"everything he has to offer" - awesome. :)

Posted by: Lisa at January 21, 2009 12:38 PM

I forgot.. 'change' is here...

Still, Bonnie looks pretty hot sitting up there with Duane. You gurls should take your 'private shots' of Skydog and slide up to the graveyard where
they took a bunch of those..for that added extra twist...or whatever you want to call it.

Posted by: csason at January 21, 2009 11:15 PM

We could go up to Rosehill but that's not where the special shots were taken...we would have to go on out to Otis's farm to get the added twist your talking about. Yes, I can see where you fellows might want to oggle Bonnie...she was and still is a cutie.

Posted by: cindy at January 22, 2009 09:47 AM

Oh and I forgot...Bonnie is a damn fine singer! That is really why she is so attractive to the guys...right csason?

Posted by: cindy at January 22, 2009 09:50 AM

Check your e-mail, Lisa.

Posted by: Donnah at January 22, 2009 09:55 AM

Jeez.. slingin Skydog porn behind my back..

Cindy, I probably would've never heard of Bonnie
and Delaney if it weren't for Duane.

Judging her on a looks/talent ratio with
Mama Cass as being the standard (and
Ella Fitzgerald too) I'd say Bonnie was more stage candy than pipes..but at least she sounds better than Stevie Nicks... :)

Posted by: csason at January 23, 2009 02:18 PM

I'm with you there, Owen. Stevie Nicks sounds like a sheep trapped at the annual Degenerate and Desperate Farm Boys Hootenanny and Bar-B-Que.
Baaaaa!

Posted by: Starla Darling at January 23, 2009 02:45 PM

I'll say this for the old Fleetwood Mac.. I went to see them in Orlando, at the old Tangerine Bowl stadium, back when concerts actually made some semblance of sense, and there was little talk of killing the cops and so on.

As is usual in Florida on a hot Summer afternoon, it started raining..buckets and buckets.
After about an hour..it dried up (we really enjoyed the storm, as the smell of fans in heat is pretty bad, after a couple of quarts of booze..etc.)
Well..they hung in there, and stayed. Britney or Pdippy would have been back on the jet, headed home..like Zep did in 77. To top it off, the tarp overhead of the band was drooping way down, full of water. A really smart roadie on drugs go the idea of taking a pole and pushing up on it, while they were playing.

It drenched the entire band..too bad we didn't have Youtube, it would have been one for the ages..They toweled off, and continued on..It was great. I just couldn't make out a damn thing Stevie was singing.
