Another in the series on downtime on the road.
Wail on, Skydog!
And just to show you I'm an equal opportunity spritzer: Dickey Begone!:

Wow so they make Dickey and Gregg begone..impressive
Posted by: Baron Thoma at May 20, 2009 09:17 PMIsn't modern chemistry amazing?
"Donnah, what a big sprayer you have!"
"All the better to see YOU clearly, my dear!"
If they could only develop, Duane Come Back. Wail On!! Have a Happy Memorial Day, hug a soldier.
Posted by: Willard at May 21, 2009 08:53 AMOh no.. You completely change to message inherent in the photo when you do the anti-Dickey thing..
Dickey talked about this photo in an interview.
The second one says "I'm stoned and playing a guitar in a hotel room..oh yeah, I'm Duane Allman"
The first one says.." Damn, this guy is so good..I must've gotten a little too much second hand smoke..oh yeah, that's Duane Allman."
Posted by: csason at May 21, 2009 12:01 PMWillard, that is the best comment of the year!!! If only Donnah could develop DCB...we would all be getting a triple order!!
May we all remember what Monday is all about.
Thanks Donnah, you rock!
Wail on, Skydog!
Posted by: cindy at May 21, 2009 12:38 PMCindy, I thought the same as you about Willard's comment. That was most awesome & I wish I'd thought of it myself! Wail on, Willard!
Posted by: Lisa at May 21, 2009 02:03 PMWhat did Dickey say about this photo, Owen?
I'm not anti-anybody, certainly not anti-Dickey. I like my music with a twang and it's Dickey that gave them that.
Posted by: Donnah at May 21, 2009 02:40 PMLooks like a candid shot of Dickey wishfully wondering, What does this guy have that i dont?" look.
Man, Dickey is the master of some of the finest instrumental melodies ever created...found
in blue sky, liz reed and many others!
But, he was jealous that he never got the respect and admiration that followed Duane in life and in death.
Two things in Duane's favor here. His magnetic and Chrismatic personality..there was something special about Duane...all the bios mention this fact. Dickey on the other hand was known as being surly and bad tempered.
The other thing, Duane's early passing puts a spin on his legend that cannot be under estimated. He will always and forever remain
"bigger than life". That is just the way it is.
In fact, there is a bio of Duane/ and or the Allman Brothers that mention this, after a concert Dickey was screaming, "why the hell aint I as big as Duane?"
Well, when he made that statement, he should have known! He got his answer in his very words.
Yall I am home alone,(banish the thought lol) playing my guitar n surfing on the net, not the water lol. i would sink like a rock!) My sis is on a cruise to the Bahamas.
Be safe and enjoy your well earned long Weekend.
Wail on Skydog, Wail on!
(As always, thanks for the picture Donnah, had never seen this one.. Duane had a great smile, didnt he?)
He had a beautiful smile, Sheila. (Not even an abscessed tooth ache and its accompanying blues could dim that.)
Everybody, have a great weekend, and a salute to all our troops, past and present.
I'm off to WV with my favorite man, see y'all Monday sometime.
Have a blast Starla! Dont forget to take ABB tunes with ya!
God Bless this country, the beloved USA that allows us the freedom to dress, think, dream and play the blues!
A extremely special mention of my very brave nephew Andy Warden, 19 yrs old. He graduated boot camp last May. He was recently shipped out to Afghanistan. He will return God williing, in December. He doesnt know it Im sure, but it is the sacrifice of him and others like him that keeps this country free! And he is a Hero! The few, the proud, he is a Marine!
We come from a long line of military. My dad Bert Smith joined the navy right after Pearl Harbor. One of my sisters Jeanette was in the navy too.
Bbq, enjoy your friends and family, but remember our soldiers who keep this country free.
God bless America! And dont forget to "wail" this weekend like Duane did! Wail on Skydog!
