Nice one Donnah. Love the lighting on this pic.Shows more of Duane's contemplative side. Of course he was always aware of what he was playing , why he was playing it, and he always knew right where he was going! Boy Reese was killing Liz on that clip. Hope all is going well with Clay, and of course a big thanks to the Capt'n and to you Donnah for attaching it. Two very special brothers.

Donnah, you rock, thank you as always.

Wail on, Skydog!

I wish I could find somebody that can make pics of me look as good as that.
Cindy, you win this week! How about a Smith Island cake? They're very popular as prizews right now?

These clips make me wonder how the Allman Brothers Band would have fared if Gregg had been riding the Harley that November in '71.

This one reminds me of the cover photo of Joni Mitchell for her best album "Blue". In both cases, the blue in the photos speak to the music the artist was creating.

Starla, what is a Smith Island Cake? I've never heard of that but if it tastes good....I'm in! Especially if it contains chocolate.......yummmmm!

A Smith Island cake, near as I can figure, is a great big cake made up of many very thin layers with frosting or filling in between all the layers and on top. A real Smith Island cake is handmade and assembled and so they are very expensive. Forty dollars would not be an unusual price to pay for one. They come in all different flavors, and yes, chocolate is popular. Also you can find them with more than one flavor, so you might get, say, a cake that's got layers of chocolate and raspberry, or orange and banana. The slice I tried once was carrot and orange.
The cakes are very popular as prizes at stuff like Longaberger bingo or carnivals or charity events, and you can sometimes find them in restaurants. Smith Island itself is an island in the Chesapeake Bay, either in Maryland or Virginia, I forget which.
So if you win one of those, bring it to the swamp with you, it will be plenty for everybody. :)
And Paco, blue is always effective. I read once where magazines and books sell better if there's blue on their covers.

Alan - what exactly do you mean? Are you saying Duane would have actually taken over the lead singer role of the ABB? He never claimed to be a singer & I'm sure they would've found someone else. They were just in a bind because Gregg was sick. But we do all know that sometimes Duane would just "feel like singin'". :)

He wasn't as good a singer as Gregg, but he obviously had fun with it. And "No Money Down" is a hilarious song.

Let's not forget "Happily Married Man". :)

Posted by: Lisa at October 27, 2009 02:42 PM

Which I call "Happily Married... Just Not to You!" Everytime I hear that one I picture this complete dump of a place, clothes and stuff strewn around, not one clean dish but the whole cupboard full of them dirty adn spread around the kitchen and anyplace else... the kind of place that belongs to somebody who knows the place lacks a woman's touch, and likes it like that.

Posted by: Starla Darling at October 27, 2009 03:09 PM

For some reason that song has always made me think of a kitchen sink that's just attached to the wall & has no cabinet. Isn't that crazy as hell?

Posted by: Lisa at October 27, 2009 04:04 PM

Great minds run in the same rut? And piled up with dishes, with perhaps a cat licking something gross and unidentifiable off one of the plates.
THe kind of kitchen that would make my blood pressure shoot sky-high if I happened to walk into it.

Well, I have never heard of a Smith Island cake but it sounds good and complicated like me! lmao
Im sweet and I have many layers too!

Duane wasnt a good enough singer to carry the band; but he loved to sing and the few he did i really enjoyed. If you ever heard the bootleg The Gatlingburg Tapes you hear a very drugged Duane singing a old Jimmy Rodgers song about gambling. Its pretty good too. My favorite song Duane sings was on the Live at Ludlow Garage lp. It was called Dimples..."shes got dimples on her dog, shes got dimples on her dog, I got my eyes on you...or something like that.

Hope y;all are feeling fine and rocking out to some ABB tunes.

Ive been busy elsewhere here and there. Wail on skydoggies, wail on!

I think that's "dimples on her jaw." It's the only thing that makes sense, anyway. I don't have many layers and I'm not as sweet as some, but I do happen to have a set of dimples in my cheeks! So I guess it evens out. lol

Posted by: Starla Darling at October 28, 2009 08:08 PM

Starla, thanks for setting me straight! I always thought is was dimples on her dog. I have no idea where that came from! lol

silly me!

Now I have this urge to create a cartoon doggie called Dimples. Maybe Snoopy's love interest? Why not? Charlie Brown had his Little Red-haired Girl, why can't Snoopy have a love life? :) I confess I'm in a Peanuts mood because we watched "IT's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" two nights in a row this week.
