It is possible to tie-dye a t-shirt to match your hair.
Wail on, Skydog!
And a close-up:

The first shot I've ever seen of Duane with a Les Paul Custom - where do you keep finding them ?????
Posted by: Al - possibly the only fan from Australia ! at November 18, 2009 10:56 PMWell, any doubt that Duane had red hair is gone! :>
This picture shows his hair color really well. And of course Duane's daughter has the same red hair color as this picture. Nice blow up of a familiar pic. But, I must say, I have never seen this one in color before.
Wail on skydoggies, wail on! :> Happy Turkey day to y'all as well.
And as always thanks to our host Donnah for our Weds. pix fix!
Yep, Donnah's the hostess with the mostest... mostesst pics. We love you Donnah!
Sehila, you're right about the hair, it really stands up and hollers, so to speak. Funny, in some pics it looks more blond than red and in others, this one particularly, it looks more red. I guess he had the kind of hair that looks a different color depending on the light. I hav e agirl friend whose hair you would usually call dark-blond, but when she's outside in the sunshine it's very much strawberry blond.
Welcome aboard, Aussie Al! And congrats on being not only the first from Down Under, but for being the first responder to this pic! I think you need a special prize for that double honor, don't you guys agree?
It's also possible for a redneck from Samoset to overdo the beatnik look.. damn Dickey.. Jimi must have been at the top of the charts that week.
Thank you Missuss Cracker..for the real nice
Skydog pitchurs.
I must have offended our Hostess...kept getting a you are not allowed to post message last night. Maybe Donnah is trying to tell me something....Hummmm, but this morning I get a reprive. Welcome Al! That was the first thing I noticed too...the ax I mean. Now if Duane only had some of those new fangled purple highlights in his hair the shirt would be a perfect match. Maybe some of the gearheads can enlighten us on this guitar.
Donnah, thanks for the reprive and everybody have a good weekend.
Wail on, Skydog!
Posted by: cindy at November 19, 2009 09:57 AMPurple highlights?! NOooooo!! Never!!! *covers face in horror*
Posted by: Starla Darling at November 19, 2009 10:08 AM"We ain't here to wear any fancy purple highlights. We came here to pick."
Posted by: Donnah at November 19, 2009 10:18 AMNice shot.
OK, heading south this evening. Macon on Saturday afternoon. Rose Hill, and possibly an advance peak at the Big House museum.....which doesn't really open until next week. If I can spare the time, I might stay for the Duane Birthday concert the next day.
Posted by: Mike The Bike at November 19, 2009 11:03 AMI was only kidding...purple highlights are more akin to Robert Plant and his velvet pants!!! Oh no I didn't go there again. No wonder Donnah was trying to ban me!!!!:D
Posted by: cindy at November 19, 2009 01:22 PMRobert Plant wouldn't do purple highlights either, unless he could be sure the hair exactly coordinated with his britches. Then of course he'd take it and run with it.
Posted by: Starla Darling at November 19, 2009 03:43 PMa more paul on corcidin. beware donnah, muslim countries seek blasphemy ban.
Posted by: dan at November 19, 2009 03:55 PMAcid flashback, Dan?
Posted by: Donnah at November 19, 2009 04:24 PMObviously, Duane had just been to the newly opened Macon Mall and had his colors done.
DUANE: (pensively) So whuddya got, man?
RAMON: (considering, one hand on hip, other on chin) Hmmm...I see...FIRE! A big, blue, purpley fire, like all witchy and stuff, but with some orange to match your hair. And your guitar should be all darkness. No more tiger stripes for you, bubelah!
DUANE: O.K., but none o' that velvet stuff, neither. Hey, watch that!
RAMON: I'm just taking your inseam. No need to get all huffy.
Posted by: Surfer Joe at November 20, 2009 04:16 AMRamon: (after much loud protestation from his customer) Ok oka, if you insist, I won't measure it. You gotta choice: pants that don't fit right, or Estrella measures you. *snaps fingers* Oy, Estrella!
Starla appears, stage left, wearing Carmen Miranda fruit-salad hat, stilettos and carrying a tape measure.
Starla: (brandishing tape measure in a somewhat imposing fashion) You called?
Thanks once again Donnah & a big ole Happy Birthday to Howard Duane Allman !
Posted by: Jack at November 20, 2009 09:39 AMHi, just wanted to give you a little identifying info for a couple of the Duane photos you've posted. The one for 10/17/06 (duanesurround) and the one for 12/19/07 (duaneaj68) are, I'm pretty sure, from the same event, which was the first of the Jacksonville jams that I attended, back when I was in high school. It was probably late Summer, early Fall 1968, my friends said "there's going to be a free concert", and we went to this stadium, no stage, just amps and drums sitting on the playing field, we sat on the ground, and I remember this rather weird-looking guy playing the most amazing things on a sunburst Stratocaster. You can see the Strat leaning up against one of the amps in the duanesurround pic, while he plays a Les Paul, but he's playing the Strat in the other one. In one pic you see the lines on the field, in the other you see the stadium seats behind him. The head in the duaneaj68 pic could very well be mine, that's about where I was sitting. I can't remember how many of those jams there were altogether, but I'm pretty sure I was at all of them. After several months in musical heaven, my friends and I were all VERY bummed when Duane, Greg, and The Second Coming all disappeared off to Atlanta (it was said) to form a new band. They didn't leave much behind, the average local band in Jacksonville at the time was pretty awful, I have to say.
Thanks for posting these photos, those were some of the best times of my life.

And "rather weird-looking?"?!?! Randy, Randy, please be careful...

Posted by: csason at November 22, 2009 11:18 AMButts matching, butts flattering, butts clothed and unclothed... we just like nice butts.
Posted by: Starla Darling at November 22, 2009 12:23 PMMost of you have probably seen this, but Rolling Stone did a real cool tribute to Duane on their website on 10/29. Read some of the comments left by readers if you go there. Some of them may bring a tear. Here is the link: http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/10/29/remembering-duane-allman/
Also, at the 25th Concert for the Rock @ Roll Hall of Fame, which also took place on 10/29, CSN broke into a version of Midnight Rider in tribute to Duane. Here is the link to that article: http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/10/29/epic-moments-at-the-rock-hall-25th-shows-the-countdown-begins/
More proof that Duane indeed lives on. Hey, thanks for all the cool pics of Duane, Donna. Look forward to them every week. Peace Y'all.
Posted by: Rob at November 23, 2009 11:45 PMGreat stuff, Randy and Rob- ignore these boy-crazy wimmens. They got nothin' on their minds but manflesh- and the occasional Carmen Miranda hat.
Posted by: Surfer Joe at November 25, 2009 04:37 AMWell, this boy-crazy wimmen is off to West Virginny to have turkey dinner with Dustin's kinfolks, so it looks like I won't be first on the Wednesday pic when it gets put up. So there's that much less competition for the prizes!
Take care, have a good holiday, and remember, even if the Pilgrims were a humorless and uptight crew, there's plenty of other things to be thankful for.
See ya when I get back! *blows kisses*
A toast to that- (glass lifted)- dang it, Starla, you're still wearing that hat. Where am I supposed to put my drink?
Posted by: Surfer Joe at November 25, 2009 04:17 PMRight in my hot little hand, Joey! *snatches glass, swigs immoderately*
Posted by: Starla Darling at November 25, 2009 04:24 PMYou talkin' to me, Starla? Hey, my eyes are up here!
