The nickname for a New Delhiite is a "Dilliwallah." A Delhi boss. The term for someone skilled in the art of taking photographs is a "photographer." I'm neither. So for really dynamite photos of New Delhi, check out Dilliwallah's photostream on Flickr.
This afternoon we went to the Lodi Gardens, which is something like Central Park if Central Park were not only a nice place to toss a frisbie but also full of 15th Century buildings. It's a cool and gorgeous 90 acres of people jogging the trails, tiny boys throwing those crazy cricket pitches to their dads, families having picnics, and couples taking romantic strolls. And today it had us.
Off to the Taj Mahal tomorrow.

Along the flagstone path, some beautiful buildings come into view.

Mr. Cracker moves in for a closer look.

I'd like to nibble right here. Frilly buildings look like cake to me.

Looking from one tomb to another. These dead folk really liked their windows.

Not a bad spot for reading a book.

Girl in bright salwar kameez (pants and tunic). And a sweater as it was a tad chilly.

Athpula Bridge (check out Dilliwallah's pic of this.)

On the way home: a family of four riding their vehicle, the mom sidesaddle in her pink sari.
The pics are great! Even GREATER is that Mark feels like strolling through the garden! Hope he really is feeling better every day!
Posted by: Becky at January 1, 2010 12:02 PMDonnah, it is so nice that you are sharing this glimpse of another world with all of us. Too often, I think that India (and other places too) get a bad rap here in the States. We so seldom get to see an India in the news media that isn't ugly, dirty, violent and depressing. Thank you for reminding us that even troubled places are rich in beauty, history and human goodness, if more people would take the time to find them and report on them.

The Taj Mahal !! Wow.. almost made getting sick worth it..not.
Posted by: csason at January 1, 2010 06:58 PMYou really ARE going to the Taj Mahal! I thought you were joking! What a wonderful opportunity! I'm looking forward to the pictures tomorrow and hope to hear more news about Mark feeling better every day! I'm starting to stock up on milkshake goodies - ice cream and fruit - and Joe is going to make some of his special chicken soup the day before you get back. We already have two cases of little pudding cups and jello. And the girls think Joe is their personal trainer - he plays 'tug the toy' for hours every day!
Enjoy the beautiful country - it is wonderful to see India through your eyes! Thanks for sharing!
Posted by: Becky at January 1, 2010 11:21 PMI am really enjoying your photos. The one of the bridge would make a beautiful watercolor painting. Do you ever check your floridacracker e-mail? I wrote you a day or to, just to see if you do check it (&answer from it). It does sound like Mark is getting better every day. What a thrill - to get to see the Taj Mahal. love, Barbara
