Duane making what was undoubtedly an insightful remark to Berry Oakley about something-or-other.
Possibly about the great safety features of the Volvo.
Wail on, Skydog!
Whoa, loving this one! DA must have been cold, what with his arms in the "puffy jacket". To have been a fly on the wall and easedrop on that conversation......too cool!
Donnah, thank you and hoping you and Mr. C are both recovering nicely!
Wail on, Skydog! (Berry too!)
Posted by: cindy at January 20, 2010 11:12 AMYou win a puffy jacket, Cindy! For your next cold snap. Magic Mauve? Kiss of Mint? Blue Hell? Maybe Ravishing Red?
He's cold 'cause he has not one ounce of body fat to insulate him. He needs a big fat greasy cheeseburger and a (spiked?) hot coffee and some of my hot blueberry pie for dessert.
Alright now Dickey, Berry's got this here napkin folded into a triangular football......and he's gonna try to kick it though the uprights......
Posted by: Mike The Bike at January 20, 2010 01:30 PMDuane: Get this. My little brother thinks Cher is hot!
Berry: You're kidding, right?
Duane: No, seriously, he wants to ask her out!
Berry: Wow! Doesn't he know that one day she'll be emulated by countless drag queens, along with Carol Channing and Judy Garland?
Posted by: hamous at January 20, 2010 02:42 PMLol!
Bery: And that she'll be all tattooed and still going around in her undwerwear when she's fifty and older?
Duane: *lays head in hands* Yeah, I told him all that, but you can't tell him nothin' when he gets something into his head.
Posted by: Starla Darling at January 20, 2010 05:18 PMLong time reader, first time poster. I Love the photo, where did it come from? I thought I had every photo there was of Duane.
Posted by: Holly at January 21, 2010 12:30 AM"....I'm just saying, If they remade "The Robe", you would be great as the Jesus dude..that's all ..."
Posted by: csason at January 21, 2010 09:00 AMI am lmao on the Cher comments. You all know Duane didn't dig the marriage scene. Guess BBro should have listened to him considering all the times his haven't worked out. He has tried and tried and he is still alone. Maybe Duane's early demise has something to do with all that as well.
And Starla, I want a puffy silver jacket with an airbrushed photo of Cher on the aircraft carrier on the back! If Joe is a very good boy I will let him borrow it sometime ;)!
Wail on, Skydog!
Posted by: cindy at January 21, 2010 09:07 AMStarla smarla.. I like the Jesus comment best..
Posted by: csason at January 21, 2010 10:27 AMI have to agree csason......funny stuff!! Your just jealous I didn't offer my puffy Cher jacket to you for this weekend!
Wail on, Skydog!
Posted by: cindy at January 21, 2010 11:40 AMCindy, don't pay him a bit of attention. He knows good and well the puffy silver Cher jacket would look ridiculous with that kilt of his.
I remember the "If I Could Turn Back Time" video! She was on the USS Missouri, if I'm not mistaken. The video was pretty controversial for its time because of her outfit, or lack thereof.
I sang that song in a talent show in fourth grade. I also dressed up as Cher in that body-stocking thingy for a Halloween party, but that was years later, of course.
Forget about Cher; I can't get Starla's hot blueberry pie off my mind.
Posted by: Paco Malo at January 21, 2010 06:46 PMIt's even harder to get off your shirt so please be careful and don't drip any down your front.
Posted by: Starla Darling at January 21, 2010 07:14 PM{big smile with blueberry stained teeth}
Posted by: Paco Malo at January 22, 2010 05:59 AMI think I see a little blueberry on Duane's chin there, Starla Dahling.. I swear. Gall dern can o worms...
Posted by: csason at January 22, 2010 09:23 AMYou can dress him up, but you can't take him out.
*fizzes can of whip cream over her own slice of hot b-berry pie*
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!
CAN of whip cream?
CAN ??!?!!??
I mean.......fine for late night antics, but not for your home made pie.......
Posted by: Mike The Bike at January 22, 2010 11:34 AMHa ha, I just wanted to see if you were paying attention and if you had standards. Let's try it again, shall we?
*dips big spoonful of fresh cream onto pie from chilled bowl where it was whipped into a frothy, billowy delight, watches it melt satisfyingly into hot blue filling. Rubs aching arm*
There you go....
By the way, I am currently sitting with tickets to see the ABB on March 11,15,18,19 at the United Palace Theater in NYC.
I have 2 extra tickets for the March 18th show. If any of you guys will be in the area, let me know soon. The tickets will be yours, and dinner will be my treat.
Come take a bite of the Big Apple.
We're not so bad.....
Posted by: Mike The Bike at January 22, 2010 12:23 PMDamn, wish I could, but can't. I'd bring you a blueberry pie too. Or apple, since it is NYC.
Posted by: Starla Darling at January 22, 2010 12:50 PMHAHAHAHA!!
Csason, man, that made me laugh out loud, that caption was PERFECT! Berry's just staring into space like... 'for real..?' and Duane has that tone of voice in his expression.
(and the jacket is in the foreground on the middle or this side of the table, Duanes arms are on the chair arms... Berrys posture is awesome, I'd totally slouch like that =P)
Posted by: Ben at January 24, 2010 07:30 PMI was lead to this site via a search for obscure Derek and the Dominos facts. When I saw the photo of Eric and Duane at Curtis Hixon Hall in Tampa, my jaw dropped. Why? Because I was there that night. At the end of the show, I just sat there stunned. Being a guy from Detroit, I thought I had seen a few things, but at one point I looked at my friend and said, "I can't believe he's up there trading licks with God". And not just trading, but pushing back, and sometimes sailing beyond Clapton. All I can tell you is, I have told the story of that night to countless people, but you really had to be there. Magnificent

Posted by: Greg Henderson at January 26, 2010 01:16 AMHell. I met John Kay in the band entrance area at Curtis Hixon...got in for free. ..
If anybody wants to discuss that , you kind find me here.
Greg,
After 40+ years since the event, my memory has a few well earned gaps, but I do remember that the opening act had the unforgettable name "Toe Jam". I think Stone the Crows, with the great Maggie Bell was next on the card. I hope another surviving member of the audience will chime in to confirm.
Saw them at Painter's Mill Music Fair, Baltimore. MD, fall of '70 (unfortunately minus Duane). They had trouble getting their equipment in and the show didn't start 'til after 11 p. m. Got home around 2, it was a school night, and got hollered at - but it was well worth it! I think the opener was called Toe Fat.
Posted by: James at January 26, 2010 04:22 PM"great as the jesus dude" ...laughed for 5 minutes and smiled for 10 more after reading that comment. thought the same when i first saw the pic. wow! barry is a son of a look alike.
Posted by: rob at January 26, 2010 10:57 PMHe sure had a mess of hair, that's for sure.
Posted by: Starla Darling at January 27, 2010 09:10 AMThat's why one of Berry's pre Allman groups was called "The Second Coming" Wail in' On waiting for the next picture.
Posted by: Willard at January 27, 2010 11:44 AMI just noticed Berry has an amazing resemblence to Zac Brown ...in my eyes ..of course Zac has much shorter hair but the look on Berry's face here ..and there are stark differences in Berry's appearance after Duane died look at all the pics ..he never looked happy ...in any pics I have seen ...its amazing how we need our friends ..later ...
