A happy Duane backs up Delaney in what looks to be another pic from the Schaefer Fest.
Tickets were a buck.
Wail on, Skydog!
I saw a lot of great shows there in the 70's....
Posted by: Mike The Bike at June 30, 2010 11:09 PMYou're a lucky guy.
Posted by: Donnah at June 30, 2010 11:13 PMHaven't seen this one before. Thank you.
Posted by: fenerio at July 1, 2010 02:00 AMANYBODY who gets anything nice for a mere buck is very lucky indeed!
I'd offer Mikey a prize worth one dollar, but I don't suppose he wants a can of Coke or a pack of gum. The good old days...
How much is that buck in "today's" money? I vaguely remember seeing Duane and the Brothers back in the day for something like $3.50...Any economists in the house?
Posted by: Dennis at July 1, 2010 11:55 AMYou'd be very lucky to get any kind of concert ticket for much less than $50 today.
Posted by: Starla Darling at July 1, 2010 12:13 PMIn the early seventies, the standard concert price in Tampa was $4.00. I still remember my outrage when, in '74 I think it was, a concert ticket was $6.50. My thoughts on modern day concert ticket prices are unprintable.
Posted by: Paco Malo at July 1, 2010 06:08 PMYea when I saw the ABB back in 08 up here I got me n my pop tix for $54 each. I thought I had it all back then! ...Im so poor now...
But I got my health, family, friends, and freaky Duaniacs who share in the love of Duane and his music!
Wail on, Brothers n Sisters!
(I gotta get back into workin on my chops... been a while since I was wailing on the guitar most nights... been riding the bike a lot.. 3500 miles so far this season!)
Posted by: Ben at July 1, 2010 07:22 PMI'm out seeing bands two or three nights each week, and I still see plenty of great shows for $35 and under.....and that's in NYC. Of course a drink is $11, but what do you expect.
Posted by: Mike The Bike at July 1, 2010 08:52 PMBen!!!! You are *that* Ben, right? The one that did "Abscessed Toothache Blues?" Long time no see!
Posted by: Starla Darling at July 2, 2010 11:23 AMDefinitely, the Real McCoy.
Yea that seems like FOREVER ago. How ya been Sheila? ;)
But yea I really need to pick a guitar up again, JEEZ its been too long! I'll be a 1/4 of a century old soon with nothing to show for it! Duane had a KILLER band and was one of the greatest guitarists to ever live by the time he was my age! =P
Posted by: Ben at July 2, 2010 04:23 PMOh yea and I remember promising a rendition of Please Be With Me... I've been asking my uncle to borrow his dobro again... B)
Posted by: Ben at July 2, 2010 04:24 PMBen, I never realized you were actually younger than me! Kinda bittersweet to find out I'm not the baby of the Cracker World anymore.
Posted by: Starla Darling at July 2, 2010 09:43 PMI paid 7.50 ..I think , to see Zep in Tampa in 71.
White Witch played the Colonial Drive in (orlando) for a buck in 73.
Lynyrd Skynyrd tix were free ...at Tampa Fairgrounds if you happen to be in the right place.
Now the old Tampa Fairgrounds, that was a place to see a concert. It was the infield of an old dirt auto racetrack -- perfect for low budget mini-festivals. I'll never forget the show Leon Russell & Co. put on there one hot summer afternoon around '72 or so. Tampa's hippie swan song, if you will.
