A Miami Herald writer turned up as a visitor at our church here in Central Virginia (of all places!), and I chatted with her for a while. I said, "Oh, yes, I've been reading about the Herald lately." She responded, "DeFede, right?"
The poor woman probably has to take a lot of flack because of it.
Posted by Baron Bodissey at August 9, 2005 11:38 AMGee, that is strange. What happened when you flicked the holy water on her?
Posted by Donnah at August 9, 2005 02:36 PMThere is some weird relativism being made for the defense of DeFede. If DeFede and these journalists are all thinking alike about this I can see why DeFede went ahead and did what he did that got him canned in the first place.
Posted by erik at August 9, 2005 02:46 PMDonnah, she emitted a lot of sparks, shrieked, and then disappeared in a cloud of smoke, leaving a smell of sulphur behind. Of course, that last one may have just been the smell of good ol' Florida groundwater...
Posted by Baron Bodissey at August 9, 2005 02:50 PMFrom reading the comments at the Journalists for DeFede site, I came away scoffing at their belief in their own superiority to the profanum vulgus.
It was like watching the Charlie's Angels actresses talk about the economic importance of hot, caffeinated beverages in China. There wasn't anything that could make a dent in their sense of righteousness and entitlement. Not even something as basic as "If you make a living pointing your finger at others; you'd better have your own house in order."
Baron- Ah, sulphur water. I can smell that rotten-egg smell now.
An aunt and uncle of mine used to make their coffee by getting some hot sulphur water from the tap, then stirring some instant coffee in it. It's my vision of poverty in Florida.
We have the same thing in the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Must be a sandy-coastal-area thing...
BTW, the young lady from the Herald said she was a Catholic (visiting an Episcopal church), first name Jennifer, living in Alexandria, Va. In case that causes you to recognize her, that is.
